Hi I am a junior at an art college majoring in illustration. I want to be a comic book artist/writer and overall professional illustrator. For six years I have been diagnosed as having asperger's syndrome. School has been good in ways of getting my work done and earning good grades, but it has also brought the worst to me. I have a long history of being considered wierd and distant. I have hardly had friends in my entire life. Never being invited to social situations or parties. By high school I was near completely ignored by the other students except for bullies looking for a laugh. Now that I am in college, it is like being lost in a parking lot to being lost in a desert. I could have a conversation with someone, but in a few minutes it's like they don't care. I still live with my parents and can't drive to school or anyone's house. Now I have ended up a lonley guy with nothing to do put do homework, play video games, and worry about my future. There are some people around school with everything. Friends, looks, romance, driving ability, freedom from their parents, solutions to problems, and a great future. They make me angry and jealous. Having great artistic talent and faith in God have kept me going. This is my first time ever writing on an internet forum. Does anyone have the same problems? I wish I could finally be a good friend for someone. Aspergers is not my problem, it's to make more people want me around and like me the way I am.

I wish I could do comic book art. There are some pretty cool folks here at WP. Sometimes it takesd a little while to get warmed up here, but I think you're off to a good start, letting folks know how you feel. Welcome and best wishes to you. I am an older aspie, but looking back, I think the period that you are going through now was one of the most difficult for me as well. It also had some good times and showed some promise, but not everything worked out all the time. I hope you find some friends where you are and here on WP. Keep the faith, to me it has been a solid rock in very tough times and if you can use your Asperger's focus and introspection to strengthen your relationship with God, you may find peace.

Welcome to the land of misfit toys.
You know who you are.
You probably have cultivated some outstanding drawing talent.
You know what you want out of life.
You have a bright and promising future ahead of you.
If I could have changed one thing in life it would have been being diagnosed earlier.
Might have prevented some much unneeded suffering, but then that suffering is a big part of who I am today. Friends will come and go, jobs will come and go, but your involvement in the emerging Asperger's community will hopefully last a life time.
Welcome aboard.
