Greetings

I'm introducing myself. I'm 38 , female and live in Australia. I was only diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome this year. However I have thought that I have been Austistic since my teens. I read a magazine article about the actress Daryl Hannah having been diagnosed with Austism as a child whom I could relate to very much. Furthermore in my early 20's I did some voluntary work with Autisic children where I discovered a lot of similarities along with an affinity between us. Unfortunately Asperger's Sydrome was not an existing diagnosis as yet back in the early 1990's so I had no means to affirm my hunch. I have had other diagnosis and had to put up with default explanations about my differences to NT's. With my new diagnosis I'm currently going through an excelleration curve;for the first time I can start to learn who I really am. I'm looking forward to participating in the forum :)

Cheers
MonstressTiamat

Hi Monstress I started my journey of self discovery just over 1 year ago now, it has brought great depth to who I am and greater understanding of myself. I am now a very happy and proud aspie, but do realize society has along way to allowing for our differences, it can be difficult at first, but it gets so much easier and have found with acceptance came a wonderful new gained confidence and a whole new large extended aspie family

Hi Monstress, welcome to WP. I'm a 34 year old female living in Melbourne. I hope you enjoy participating in this forum. I've learned so much from WP about ASD, and love being able to communicate with other Aspies. :)

Hi Monstress,

Welcome to the club. What state are you from - I'm in Sydney NSW myself.

Also, what are your hobbies etc?

That sounds like me. I completed a psychology degree for the same reason.

Did it help me? It did to a point, however I'm still anxious in social situations despite having a better understanding of people.

I wonder if there are more aspies out there who studied in similar areas, I'm guessing there would be.

Good luck with your studies. :)

There was a time back in the seventies when I studied genetics and psychology. In the wake of that I backed right away from universities, until I earned myself an MBA for my 50th birthday. Even that was still pre-diagnosis...

Knowing how things go together sometimes helps, but the damn thing has a resistance to change that is daunting.

Welcome to the board, anyway
