My name is Kristina and I am a 23 year old high school teacher. I found out recently that I have Asperger's and it makes a lot of sense but boy are my thoughts and felings all over the shop. I don't know where to begin to try and get myself sorted out and change things I neeedto change. I have read one book and done lots of internet research but I'm not sure what information is good and what isn't and what strategies to try etc. Would be great to get some feedbak from people in similar situations.

Hi welcome, there is a huge need for teachers on the autism spectrum, hopefully you can help make a difference to many children. For you its really all about understanding and embracing who you are as an individual.

It can be both a relief and a massive shock getting a diagnosis of AS. Sure, there is validation, but then there is a type of mourning in realizing how your life is different than it might have been. Of course we miss out on things other folks take for granted, but that doesn't make our lives any less wonderful. Celebrate yourself Kristina and all you are. I don't see AS as a deficit or disability. We just see the world in a different fashion.

As for being overwhelmed, I am, too. There is a wealth of information out there with it sometimes being difficult to tell the bad from the good. Use your heart and mind to guide you. Remember that each of us creates our own reality in a sense. Listen to what other people say in these discussions and read as much as you can. Eventually your own personal consensus will emerge from the world and you will become comfortable with yourself. That doesn't mean that things will become easier. Rather you will discover you are not alone and in this the epic itself will be more understood and your knowledge base will give you strength and an inner peace.

Hi Kristina!

I think a good way ahead may be to just surf Wrong Planet and see what you relate to: self-knowledge makes everything easier.

Welcome to Wrong Planet!
