Hi All, I am new to the Aspie world. I have always felt different my entire life and until this year did not understand why. During autism week, I read an article about a woman who found out she was an Aspie in her 50s while doing research for an article. I found many similarities and starting researching Aspies. Without formal testing, my counselor is pretty convinced I have Aspergers. It has been a relief in a sense to find out why I have felt always so different and that there are others like me!

My biggest concern is my 5 year old daughter is most likely an Aspie too. I have an evaluation this Thursday with a psychologist. She is having a lot of difficulty adjusting to kindergarten and the new life routine (so is Mommy!). She is having a lot of "meltdowns" and fits of frustration and I am getting to my wits end. I don't know how to comfort her and find ways for her to cope to the new situation. Maybe she picks up on my anxiety on it all too which could be part of the problem.

I look forward to reading the forum and seeing what insights may help.

Sincerely,

Sally

Welcome.

Don't fret about your daughter. Aspies with early intervention have better chances than we did when we were young.

Also - visit the parent's forum.

(and you can read my blog - see my footer - I've got a lot of stuff on there that will answer your questions)

Hi Sally872 welcome

I was diagnosed with aspergers and then my older son, to be honest not only has it brought us closer together, we are both happy more confidence and very proud of who we have become, our journey has been life changing for definitely for the better, it can be very scary at first, it like going into the unknown, it takes a while to truly understand, so good luck

and I agree it a great relief to know your not alone, and the aspie community may have been my only, but at times a vital and wonderful support

Very pleased to meet you, Sally, and welcome to Wrong Planet, great place to be for both comfort and encouragement; and also a great place where good insight to Asperger's can be found on every forum. Here's wishing all the very best of WP to you and your daughter. And good luck to you and your daughter on Thursday. Take great care of yourself now, Sally, and keep those posts coming.

Thank you all for replying... It is nice to know there is such a support system out there.

I will probably have questions after my daughter's visit to the psychologist on Thursday. Maybe, in turn, it will help me too!!
