I joined last night, although I had better post an intro before I have too many of other posts on the forum. I just recently stumbled across the diagnostic criteria for Asperger's Syndrome and realized I most likely have it (and others have agreed with me). I plan on seeing someone to get it 'officially blessed' after the hollidays. To give you an idea of things: I have already written a 5-page draft letter to show to the therapist on why I think my self-diagnosis is correct. Plus 3 pages attached of previous therpist's evaluations on another topic that included some phrases that exactly would describe someone with AS. A lot of things when I was young that would point to it too: diagnosed as hyperactive, classed as gifted after an IQ test, epilepsy.

Anyway, I first heard about this in the context of Second Life. I am Kara Spengler there.

It's a good thing you wrote that all down.

A total of 8 pages (so far) to essentially say why I might be right-brained. :)

Welcome Kara.

Writing an essay to a doctor could be in itself fulfilling part of the aspie criteria. (or at least behaving like an aspie).

In any case, most doctors don't welcome patient diagnosis any more than a shepherd will take advice from their sheep. In many cases, doctors get a bit "uppity" about this and will actually give a reversed or different diagnosis as a kind of "revenge".

Be careful.

Actually, the start of my letter flat-out calls it a theory and that I need it to be officially diagnosed by someone other than me before I can do much about it. I then proceed to lay out the case of why I would come to that conclusion in a methodical manner.

A doctor could yell that I know the diagnostic criteria (gee, now why would I research something I might have?) and use phrases that sound more like those of a phsychologist than a patient. Although if they do they would just be letting their own ego get in the way as I am clearly deferring to their being a gatekeeper.

An early draft is at http://kara-h.blogspot.com/2008/12/aspergers.html. That is half the size that is it at now so will post an updated one when the system trusts me enough to use hyperlinks.

Writing 8 pages sounds kind of left brained sequential to me.....By the way..
