A few words to introduce myself: I am mid-40s, German, but live since ten years in London (UK). I am gay, living in a partnership since 10 years.
The difficulties in this this partnership and in several jobs lead to discussions with friends and a lot of thought about myself. My consultant in hospital wasn't surprised when I asked him for a referral to an specialist regarding my suspicion to be "on the spectrum". So I do wait for an appointment with a NHS-specialist, which may can take some time. Adult cases are not regarded as urgent.
My self-diagnosis helped put a lot of my live into a place: The communication problems with my lover, the long history of trouble with employers (their comments: professional a very good employee, but not able to be a part of any team). My long history of odd and changing interests and my remarkable ability to to recognize and memorize details, the combination of a quite reasonable IQ of 130 with the nearly total incompetence to organize my own live.
My profession: Software engineer (C, C++ Unix), but since two years unemployed. With my self-diagnosis and being more aware regarding my strengths and weaknesses, I am looking again for a job more actively since a few weeks.
Hobbies (currently): History of international law and of law generally, just passed a phase with a "strong" interest in the Imperial Chamber Court ("Reichskammergericht" 1495-1803) of the Holy Roman Empire. If anyone is interested - I finished some weeks ago a small paper of 26 pages in which I tried to find Similarities betwen the EU Court of Justice and the Imperial Chamber Court.
Briefly: That's me.
Aspies can collaborate at arms length. Can you find some bright computer whizes and quasi-collaborate in making some new games. That will make you an enterpenure rather than another employee. Can you write science fiction? If so, you might want to try it. Also consider tutoring in a technical subject. That will give you a trade and increase your ability to adapt to the NT universe. That is one of the things I did. We live in an age where sharp wits and elevated intellects can and should flourish. Go thou and flourish! Geht mit gluck und sei gesundt!
