Hello, I’m new to Wrong Planet and also new to discussion boards and chat rooms. I was very excited to discover this site, and the possibility of chatting with others like me.

My name is Sarah. I’m 29 and I live in the province of British Columbia. I don’t have an official diagnosis, but for many years I have suspected that I’ve got Asperger’s. I haven’t been able to find a psychologist/counselor that I’m comfortable enough with to return to after the initial session. I originally learned about AS when I started searching for reasons why someone might have a difficult time making friends. As I read more about AS, I realized it sounded very much like me.

My primary interest is ice hockey. I have been playing since I was 5 years old. Being on the ice is the only time I ever feel comfortable and confident. I also like playing soccer. My other interests include geography, cartography, puzzles and reading (mostly non-fiction).

I look forward to chatting with some of you.

Sarah

Hi Sarah and welcome to the wrongplanet. From your description of yourself it does sound like you have Asperger's. I went through the same thing in searching for someone to diagnose me. I ended up going to a master social worker with expertise in Asperger's. I knew he knew what to look for in suspected Aspies. He also used two assessment tools on me, and I was clearly in the AS range on both of them. So I walked out of the office with the relief of knowing who I was. I called my wife on the cell phone as I started home and told her, "I have Asperger's." Not everyone wants a formal diagnosis, but I did. Many people feel upset upon learning they are on the autistic spectrum, but I was happy. I am proud to be an Aspie, and I love all the intense interests it has given me. If you pursue your formal diagnosis, and it is determined that you have Asperger's, I hope you see it as a gift. Good luck.
