I have a very unusually detailed long term memory.I am 38 years old and I can remember as far back as one.My family has always been annoyed by this.I think its because it holds them accountable for their actions towards me growing up.Sometimes having this gift is nice because the good memories are so wonderful to relive, like christmas, birthdays, ect. But of course on the other side of the coin, painful memories still hurt as much as they did at the time. All it takes is a sensory trigger,a sound,an object but especially certain smells. Its like a huge flashback.I think this has contributed to my depression.Funny thing though, only happens to memories in the past, because when I try to remember what I did yesterday sometimes I come up blank!!
Does anyone else have this problem? If so what do you do to get thru everyday life?

My fifth grade teacher sung her phone number in class one day to show that singing something can help you remember it. I still remember her number 20 years later.

To quote Monk, "It's a blessing.... and a curse."

I don't do anything special to cope with my freak memory, except to always try to remember that others can't remember things as well as I can and that doesn't make them stupid.

Welcome to the wrong planet. WOODBLC

.....I have similar memory. Its a problem in conversations when my factual (all five senses) LT memory clashes with the others limited and subjective memory. these conversations become arguements when I can't agree with any thing other than what really happened.
....On the other hand its difficult for me to remember what I am supposed to be doing today. This gets me in trouble often.

flash backs triggered by usually smells or certain atmospheres can warp me right back to sometime in the passed, at which point I mumble something as if I were there and then realize that I appear crazy in the now.

Always Time tripping into the passed.
