I was just wondering if there where any other aspies out there in TN? Or even better maybe even a group! Maybe we could even all try to hang out! If I can build up enough courage.

I'm in the nashville/hermitage area. I live off 40 so I can basically go to hermitage within 5 minutes.

I'm from TN! Out of the Memphis area. But I won't be a state resident for long, I'm planning to move soon.

You might want to get in touch with people in the western NC/Asheville area as well. My daughter goes to UNCA. It's a nice, quirky intellectual's town. Just a hint. I myself live in Northern VA, work in DC.

When I sought a practitioner who specializes in adults with autism, I consulted Autism Society of Middle Tennessee:
http://www.tnautism.org/

There weren't any practitioners who deal with adults with autism in Nashville, so they referred me to Elliott Ward, PhD in Murfreesboro. He is the only one in the area that I know of who sees adults. (About an hour's drive from Hermitage). I did meet a resident at Vanderbilt who is going to specialize in seeing adults with autism, he came to meet me, and was very friendly. But he is still in his residency program. The only other option given me was to go to Louisville, Kentucky, or Atlanta, Georgia. There are many more practitioners who deal with children with autism in and around Nashville.

aspiemom1 is in a good location. Chattanooga is not only beautiful, but I discovered in my search that the largest concentration of autism specialists is in Atlanta, which isn't far from where she lives.

Dr. Ward told me that there isn't anything that he can really do for me. I did not go expecting help, I went seeking expert advice on whether or not I have Asperger's. He interviewed me, tested me in various ways, and examined my school records, work records, and social history in making the diagnosis. There is really no reason for me to go back to see him now. I have not attended any of the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee monthly meetings. They look like they may offer helpful support groups for parents of children with autism, but I don't have kids.

There are no Asperger's groups in the area that I know of.

Knoxville and Memphis both have autism specialists, but I'm not sure if they have group meetings or not.

As far as I can find, Knox has nothing for adults either.

There are a few. I've been to about 4 or 5.
