Hi everyone. I am new to this site, new to blogging and forums, and fairly new to the idea that I may have AS. I have not yet been professionally diagnosed but I have to say that the more I read on the subject (on websites and more recently in books) I swear that 90% of the time it feels like I am reading my own biography. I have spent my life being/feeling/acting differently from others (especially my peers) in so many ways I wouldn't know where to begin in listing them.
I decided to become a member of this community and post on these forums for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I have spent the last couple of days reading several of the forums you guys have posted and there are so many things that I have related to or wanted to inquire further about that I thought it best to create a profile so that I may do so. Another of my reasons is that I have questions of my own that I would love to have answered and this seemed like the best place to ask them. And finally, the more I have been reading about AS the more I feel a sense of belonging. I finally feel like I may quite possibly belong to a community of people, rather than feeling completely alone and helpless. It has made a huge difference for me in so many ways. It's like a weight being lifted off my shoulders.
The most prominent question I am dying to have answered is this: How do you go about getting professionally diagnosed and where can you seek a professional to do so in southern California? Am I correct in thinking that UCLA can provide diagnosis, information, etc? Any help would be appreciated. I feel like I am flying completely blind as I am having trouble finding such information on my own.
