Hi! I'm brand new to this website and it's kinda crazy, but i think i just figured out i have Asperger's syndrome... like just now. i was on wikipedia doing some research for a psychology project (which i procrastinated till the night before and am now completely sidetracked from) and i came across Asperger's. this particular topic interested me because i'd heard that my two half brothers that share my father had been diagnosed and i had no idea what it was. let's just say my entire life instantly started making sense. there is next to no doubt in my mind that i have the syndrome. Now that i know about it i also feel that my dad definately has it. so anyway i was just wondering if i could ask a few questions. first of all what was it like when you first found out? how did you find out? what interests you? (i'm obsessed with music theory) do you have trouble with the opposite sex? how should i tell my parents/might they already know? and lastly who put such a high premium on being typical?????
p.s. so far, according to people's signatures, it seems like i've finnaly found people that can appreciate awesome quotes. not to mention pople that are interested in more than just arguing about who can drink the most without getting drunk. pointless...

At first I dubbed myself as a, pretty sure I have it, but now have it set at, I dunno. But when I first did all of the online tests and such, it was like an OMG feeling, that explains my past life so very well and my wife did an OMG too. The pros, well the jury is still out, I have labels yes and many of them, now they just tell me "you're a very complex person", but finally more open to the AS, we just don't know yet and may never know. How I learned about AS? I had wicked wicked brain race and use TV white noise to try and slow it done, at least a little and had it set on a channel where the noise volume stays the same even during ads and no blinking lights, it's a very content white noise, however they were interviewing a young lady and I got interested in it. Her description did not match me, but I thought why couldn't be a lesser version of it and fell asleep. Upon me waking I picked up exactly were I had left off and the wife was up and I said what I had heard and asked could there be a lesser version and she knew the name.

What interests me? At what point in my life would you like me to answer that from? Get me on a present or past obsession and I'll never shut up. Opposite sex, sometimes yes. But when I don't, I think my Bipolar is over riding anything else involved and even then I have to be hit over the head sometimes to even know I've been given the go ahead. On the other hand I can read body language and sometimes I don't need hit over the head. I tend to be very shy with those I really care about. Argue about drinking the most, hell no I didn't, I just did it and did it in over drive. Lead a very destructive life style for a long time. There nothing I enjoy more then going on a spiral of thoughts with good people here. Some think very linear too and I tend to step on toes when I don't really mean to. And I have past scars that others step on and don't know it and I can get more then mean when they do. But given time I usually send an apology, but not always, some I think got just exactly what they needed. If I see a bully here? You just don't want to know, but the moderators are really good about it and they do take into consideration "bad hair days". Let us work it out between us.

And yes I too have some strange family and a bunch of them, one distant is an official. My dad was different as well and in a sense I was very fortunate, he understood "hobbies" and encouraged mine. Obsessed in the details to get it just right and new ideas, yup that was him and change them as the mood struck him. But it also lead to some very serious problems, he did well in school and I couldn't. He believed in the All Mighty IQ Test, curse of my life, he never did understand, figure out why I could not do well in school at the time. I paid a heavy price for that one. But much later in life he saw I learned in a different way and the split mended.

Welcome home.

sweet thanks for your insight. and when i was talking about drinking i was trying to make a joke about some nt behaviors i had observed. it seems they use alchahol not to numb pain or as social lubricant, but as a way to compete with eachother. idk... i might be alone in resenting the fact that every party i've ever been to the conversation has been exactly the same. it's always oh man i was so messed up last night i drank x beers. then someone else would say what a lightweight i drank >x beers and didn't even get drunk. it's always just a bunck of cock measuring crap. then they move on to which beverage has the highest alchahol content. i don't know why people think that it's so crazy/awkward when i want to talk about something that matters ...like music theory hahaha and as for the hobby question, i guess just whatever your into now and maybe some of the more notable ones from the past. i just thought a good way to get people talking would be to put some questions everyone could answer. and the mind racing... i used to think they were panic attacks. i can literally just lay in my bed and entertain myself for hours just thinking about things. don't they say Einstein was like that? do you think he had any form of autism? and what are some famous people you know of that have autism.

Yeah I got your joke about the booze. Seen it way to often, that type of party kid/animal. Drinking in moderation can be a stress reliever. Umm panic attacks, yeah I had them, better under control, to the point I no longer do, but I can get really stressed out over simple tasks and have a med on an as needed bases. Drinking and I are taboo.

Mind racing, thinking, famous people. Fame? Well move out of this area and get to know people, they might not be famous, yet, but pretty damned amazing. And you can find posts that have talked about just what you're asking and if you don't? Start one. No need to be shy here, we can be really open about most anything. Like I said...

Welcome home
