Hi, I'm Heather and I've just discovered this site. I'm from Connecticut and I'm 26 years old, but my AS went untreated until fairly recently. In fact, when I first started getting help for my illness four years ago, I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, which is something different altogether. I really don't know why my parents, who are otherwise supportive, never thought to tell a medical professional about me, but I can recall reading an article about AS a few years ago and thinking it described me pretty well. I'm a freelance writer/artist working on my first novel, and I'd enjoy getting to know other AS people who are creative as well.

Hey and welcome to WP. It's good that you got an accurate diagnoses, many people with AS are misdiagnosed with Skitzofrenia. As far as meeting people who are creative...I consider myself pretty creative. I really like writing and graffiti.

Welcome to WP, Heather/Crystalmirror! :D I like freelance writing too, and have written some (unpublished) novels. What do you like writing about? I like writing about international incidents; huge things like that. :D

PS: I know how you feel about your parents; mine are aften in denial too, wanting my psych problems to be something other than what they are. My mom, for example, would tell anyone I had AS or a perception problem, or anxiety, but is hesitant to tell people about my biggest problem-- DEPRESSION. So I think I might know how you feel!

I'm a fiction writer, mostly fantasy, which is the one I'm working on now. I like stuff with wizards, warriors, unicorns, dragons, etc. I've actually had aspirations to make comic books, but I have more confidence in my writing ability than my artistic talents, so I'm working on what I hope will be my first book.

As for my parents, my mom is extra-supportive, but my dad is kind of in "la-la-land" about the whole thing. If I tell him something about my illness, the most he'll say is, "I'm glad you told me," and that's it. I know he loves me, he's just never been a very emotional person.
