I just wanted to step in and introduce myself.
I live just south-ish of Augusta, my state's capitol.
My name's Kendra, but most people call me Ken. I'm 35 and moved in with my boyfriend this past year. That means I not only live with the man I love, but also his three wonderful kids who he has almost full custody of. They're 15M, 12M and 5F. His eldest was diagnosed with Aspergers when he was seven. The other two do not have any of the same issues.
So while I am new to this whole thing, I have been thrown in the deep end.
I'm disabled, so I'm the one who's at home with them when they get home from school. I'm the one who has to make sure homework is done, fights are averted, kids are where they're supposed to be, video games are not played when they're shouldn't be, chores are done, etc ad nauseum.
I'm very lucky that my boy with AS does not have a violent bone in his body and is a kind hearted soul. He tests my patients daily, but all kids do that.
In my past I lived with a boyfriend who was undiagnosed (is diagnosed now) AS. We lived together for about 4 years and learned about half way through that he would most likely end up with that diagnosis.
That was hard in different ways, living with an AS teen is much harder. Between dealing with schools and people who will not give him a chance I'm about ready to scream.
So that's me and how I fit in here!
Ken
