I'm sorry you didn't get any replies, SamanthaBlake. Maybe if you posted this in the adolescent forum it would do better?

People with Asperger's.. Or aspies as we call ourselves around here, well we operate on a different wavelength than the neurotypical (henceforth referred to as NT) population; have a different way of seeing the world, so to speak. This leads to a few problems in the way we interact with others as these differences tend to not be understood or recognized as even existent, leading to misunderstandings because NTs tend to assume that you will understand and/or feel the same way about certain subtleties that they do.

As for coping skills, I can't tell you much. I learned on how to pick up on a lot of things through sheer observation and logical contemplation, constructing a number of complex moral and psychological theories as well as pattern recognition schemes 'simply' by thinking things through for long enough. Basically, NTs usually don't bother to analyze social dynamics because they behave in a way that occurs entirely naturally to them without a second thought. I personally think it's much healthier and much more effective to actually think about what you're doing and build up a sound theory of mind and personalized outlook that works for you rather than leave things to your automatic whims.

Of course, since I don't even agree with the way NTs do things most of the time, I tend to consciously choose not to apply this knowledge a lot of the time anyway, or otherwise decide to do what I would otherwise do anyway. I guess what I'm trying to say was that my coping strategy was simply to justify the way I behaved. :P
