Hello everyone. I'm Julia, but call me Firechick. I'm 15 years old and I do have Asperger Syndrome, or high IQ Autism. I'm in my sophomore year of high school. I hope I won't be of any trouble to you all in any way. My parents tell me I was diagnosed when I was about 1 1/2 and my parents took me to Early Intevention at Yale University to be evaluated. Apparently I was really smart. My mom told me that I used a picture book to tell someone I need to go to the bathroom (I didn't talk then). I was about 4 and they took my parents in, but they found me blowing bubbles. Apparently they were baffled that I could do that (I don't remember too well). I think I started talking when I was about 6 while attending a kindergarden with kids with autism and Down Syndrome.

As you can see, I am an avid fan of anime (Japanese created TV shows) and manga (Japanese comics that are read right-to-left). You could say I'm pretty much a hardcore otaku, but I try to keep my grades up as much as I can. I'm doing well in school and made the Merit Roll, but I dunno. I'm mostly a BIG fan of this anime called Shounen Onmyouji (BEST show EVER!!). I wish the novels would be licensed. I'm currently getting into video games like the Tales series and Kingdom Hearts. I don't own a GameCube, but I have a PS2.

My favorite anime/manga are Pokemon, Shounen Onmyouji, Kamichama Karin, Amuri in Star Ocean, Hamtaro, CardCaptor Sakura, Bottle Fairy, Sugar a Little Snow Fairy, Petite Princess Yucie, Air, Digimon, Tactics, Princess Tutu, Digi Charat, Ojamajo Doremi, Galaxy Angel, Magical Meow Meow Taruto, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Nanatsuiro Drops, Les Miserables - Shoujo Cosette, Angelic Layer, Rozen Maiden, Kirby right back at ya, Strawberry Marshmallow, Tokyo Mew Mew, Ouran High School Host Club, Lucky Star, Kanon (remake), Hibiki's Magic, Koi Cupid, With The Light (GREAT manga!), Gundam 00, Clannad, Mokke, Shugo Chara!, Sketchbook ~Full Color'S~, Tales of Symphonia, La Corda D'Oro ~Primo Passo~, Natsume Yuujinchou, Nabari no Ou, Sasami: Magical Girl Club, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de, Pavane for a Dead Girl, Tama-tan, Gravitation, Ballad of a Shinigami, Gunslinger Girl, Gakuen Alice, Munto TV, Hakushaku to Yousei, and Tales of the Abyss. I don't like any anime with naked people, perverted situations, revealing costumes, sexual stuff, excessive gore and blood, excessive profanity and stupid stuff (which, in the anime world, is called fan-service). I'm not into the overly popular anime like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Kanokon, Sekirei, Code Geass, Spice and Wolf, and vice versa. I prefer some of the neglected and not-so-well-known anime which, for me, turn out very good! I plan on watching some of the Miyazaki or Ghibli movies (like Princess Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies). The only Miyazaki movies I'm familiar with are My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. I saw a bit of Howl's Moving Castle too.

I don't have many friends because I'm sensitive to loud noise, I'm scared of handshakes, and that I like anime and manga. That is why I am trying to look for autistic people or anime lovers like me in where I am (south New Jersey). Nice to meet you all. I hope I won't trouble you all in any way.

you shouldnt be worried about troubling anyone in here. everyone is more or less a pain in the ass :]

i'd say i also like manga and anime, but i dont have any specific favorites. i admire their extreme attention to detail tho, such as their true-to-reality renderings of mechanics and technology, anatomy, etc.

just today i showed (one of my favorites) "stinkbomb", from katsuhiro otomo's "memories", to my sister. another example of a anime full of _amazing_ detail *drool*

now, i know for a fact this place is full of anime/manga fanatics, so, i bet youll find people to fanaticize with :]

I might be organizing a meetup for aspies in New Jersey. You can come only with both of your parents.

Btw, high school is teenage madness and it sucked for all of us. Get your high school diploma and when you are 18-20 your life gets much much better.

Good luck

If you're interested in a meetup group involved with Asperger's here are some within a 100 mile radius of Philly. Not sure how far your parents would be willing to travel.

Here are some mainly involved with Autism, depression.
