New here
Hi, I'm new here. Looks like this is a huge list and I'm a bit overwhelmed, not sure where to go. I just joined because I'm ready to give up and run away. My 17 year old Aspie son hasn't let up for 14 years and he's getting worse. It's not the Autistic symptoms, it's the moods. Prozac was a patch for several years, but it stopped working a few years ago. We've tried Welbutrin recently. He's getting nastier. The only time he ever had a good mood was with 10 mg of Aderall, but then he went nuts on the 3rd day. I wouldn't even bother with the Aspie issue, 'cause it isn't a problem, but when I Googled Welbutrin, the site was written by an Aspie, and I thought maybe an Aspie would know how to best medicate my son's moods, that his biochemistry might be common to other Aspies? I choose this site because we've always know this kid is from another planet.
Well, now that the worst is off my chest. I'll tell you about Junior. He was almost exclusively homeschooled, graduated cyber high school at age 14, attended a 2 year trade college and got an AAS degree in precision machining. He worked in a couple of metal shops, but quit his last job because he started feeling stressed. He would probably like to study mechanical engineering or physics, but dorm life could be a disaster.
My 3 questions are: 1. which forum should I go to? 2. anyone have a "magic formula" of meds for a nasty Aspie? and 3. If I can get Junior to join this site, which forum might be best for him to start with?

A lot of aspies (and relatives thereof) also have stuff like ADHD or mood disorders.
Then there's teenage years, and the usual hormones. Stress obviously doesn't help.
High school is hell for most aspies, but I hear college is usually better especially if he knows about his AS.
1. The parents discussion forum might be your best bet.
2. I don't know any magic formula of meds, but "meditation" of sorts helps me deal with stress, which in turn gives me more patience to deal with the frustrating difficulties of interacting with people. I noticed a lot of well-adjusted aspies had some kind of martial arts training, I did some judo and it helped me in many ways.
3. I'd suggest some lurking in General Autism Discussion to see just how many people have similar perspectives. Many find it shocking at first, after a lifetime of feeling completely alienated. Given his age, Love and Dating may be of more concern than parents would expect. Other than that, whichever topics interest him.
