I work in a program for students on the autism spectrum, and we just got a brand new iMac for one of our locations. Today one of our students blew his last chance at staying in our program, and he's being sent to a residential treatment program. The two who spend their day down at this site are really sad about it, of course. This got me thinking that our new computer would be capable of doing video chat on Skype, and that maybe they could all stay in touch.

Since I'm setting up the computer for Skype, I thought there might be some other children out there who might like to have a virtual face-to-face conversation with our students. We have two bright 13 year old Aspie boys at this location full time, and some others of different ages and diagnoses who are here parts of the day. If you are interested in meeting up on Skype, or if you have a student or child who might, let us know.

You have a great name.

We might be interested in talking to your students. I have three children who are in the spectrum, sort of. My eldest two are Aspies ages 13 and 11. My youngest was diagnosed as PDD-NOS and began school in a self contained room for severely impaired students. Now he's in third grade, in the gifted program at school, and is testing as not being in the spectrum at all...but trust me, he's quirky. He'll be 9 soon. I am a substitute teacher and enjoy speaking with kids on the spectrum very much.

My 13yo can do Skype on his PSP. I think he'd jump at the chance to use it to talk to other kids. He's very bright but has had a tough year. We've thought he might have to go to a residential program, but he seems to be snapping out of it. He may have to repeat 7th grade or go to summer school as he's missed most of this year. Before this he was in Honors classes with a parapro, and social skills training during lunch.
