Hi I'm new- I seem to keep getting this wrong. I am a single mom with an 11 year old son diagnosed with Asperger's. The more I learn about it the more I recognize myself. I have been on and off meds and in and out of therapy since grade school for much that I now recognize as characteristics of Asperger's. I have learned a lot of coping mechanisms over the years but that feeling of wondering whether everyone else has an instruction manual to social relationships that I didn't get never quite goes away. This forum has been a great source of education for me. I very much want to help my son navigate his own life. Presently he is dealing with being called " tard " at school and his anxiety level is through the roof. I wish I could find a forum for preteens. Does anyone know of any? We also both ADD symptoms with executive brain dysfunction. He has sensory integrative dysfunction as well. We are both very curious by nature and love to read.

Thanks, I did but he's still pretty angry about his Asperger's. Take a look at today's cartoons and kid's shows and you'll see how the smart quirky kid is always an object of derision. I wonder if the adults that write that dialogue have kids or realize how kids take it literally. I think they are just trying to be "edgy" and "ironic ". He may come around. I checked it out and saw the kids were just talking about regular stuff.

welcome to wrongplanet.

I am, waht would be considered as an Autistic, and I am also ADHD... I have learned through the years to use the good things that are unique to being Autistic and ADHD while mitigating some of the negative attributes to become a better person...

Being an autistic, one interest, bordering at times of being OCD, is social interactions of people... it is like I know a lot about it but I do not really know it though... anyways, whenever you want to talk about things, do not be shy... I have been there also, still learning about the social stuff.... sharing observations and experiences helps us all in the bigger picture of things, Aspie and Autie...
