Hi,
I'm new here. 34 year old librarian, in the process of trying to get a referral for a diagnosis for Aspergers or Higher Functioning Autism from my GP.
I've been in contact with the National Autistic Society and they have been a real help but I am going to have to be so persistent to get even a referral
I am sure I have Aspergers - I have read loads of professional literature and filled out countless questionnaires about it and to me the evidence is overwhelming. My track record in integrating with the rest of the human race is hardly laudable and this has been the case from childhood to adulthood and I need to to do something; hence the referral.
I've joined this group to ask for advice and hints from people who suffer from Asperger's and Autism. In addition to the advice of the National Autisitc Society, I think joining a group like this can help with social integration.
I can't bear socialising, I have no idea how to small talk or strike up a conversation and I feel more in tune with animals than people.
Can't really say much else about me,
never had a girlfriend or any sort of relationship physical or other.
I like acting in plays: but I end up upsetting everyone so I cut myself off from the world. I would like to act though.
I like cycling and cooking (not at the same time though)
For reading I find old fashioned school stories are the best or the works of Tom Sharpe. Most books today including cildren's books are so full of death, and sadness and social issues...I want reading to be an escape!
Television: I don't like any of the rubbish on, but I am a doctor who fan (including the 1963-89 series).
I'll probably add more!
