Hi i'm gassy and at uni. I was officially diagnosed with HFA at 12, but me, my parents, GP etc knew that i had this (or something very similar) since my early childhood.

I guess i'm very lucky compared to many other people with HFA/AS, as i have never really been bullied (at least not that i've been aware of) since primary school.

Before i started uni, i always found it difficult to make friends and socialise and only had a few fairly close friends at secondary school and college.

I had very low expectations when it came to going to uni regarding making friends (I'm one of those "expect the worst, but hope for the best" sort of people), but due to several very fortunate events i found it quite easy to talk to the other students, especially as they were trying to make friends themselves, like i was, and have managed to make some very good friends and lots of other acquaintances as a result.

I have many interests, including Sports in particular Football (Bristol rovers are one of my favourite teams, hence the username), History and current events. I also have a big interest in reading about other peoples experiences with Autism/AS etc which is one of the main reasons for joining, and also enjoy learning new things, so if you have any big interests (which im sure you have) then i'd love to hear about them. But you might have to go into a lot of detail and explain it thoroughly, esoecially if it is something very complicated like the ins and outs of sellotape etc.

Like i said previously one of the reasons i joined the site was to hear and discuss other peoples experiences with autism/as etc, but i'd also like to try and meet new people who i can easily relate to when viewing this world!

Also i'd like to hear if there is anybody here from the bristol (uk) area or somerset and if anybody knows if there will be any events/groups regarding autism around these areas?

Anyway hope i didn't bore you all half to death with my post, i can go on a bit ;)

Thanks
Gassy

Hello and welcome to the WrongPlanet gassy. I am sort of the person around here who likes to speak about the gifts of autism. I try to tell everyone to look at the gifts autism can bring to us. For me it is in my intense interests. I love roller coasters and house plans to name just a couple. But most people I know, know me for music---my passionate interest. I am an autistic savant---in music. I play multiple instruments. And I also memorized the statistics for every roller coaster in North America by the time I was in high school---many years ago.

If you like roller coasters/amusement parks I would love to hear about some of the ones in England like Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Alton Towers, etc. I don't know a whole lot about those parks.

I hope you enjoy the WrongPlanet---it's a great place to learn about our autism. Enjoy :D .

Thanks a lot Lelia and Glider :)

I have to confess i've never been really into rollarcoasters or houseplans and don't know much about them, but i am now rather intrigued! What got you interested in them??

Yeah I've already learnt a lot in the last few days. Its great to know that theres a lot of people whom have similar traits to me. As I know very few people with AS/HFA etc I've never really discussed it much with other people before, so it's great to feel i can relate to a lot of people now! 8)
