A social worker who has a brother whos an "aspie" told me i might have it and i looked it up on the net and i have to say it fits me to a tee! If i really do have aspegers its ruined my life! I spend all day fighting myself. i was just wondering what do i do? is it worth seeing a doctor? how are the support groups? what do i do?

Well, you might look into an official diagnoses, if that's important to you. A lot of people that post on WP are not officially diagnosed, but know themselves sufficiently to proceed with their lives, making adjustments accordingly, in view of this new knowledge. I myself sought an official dx, because I needed it to advocate for better housing, and to protect myself against possible housing discrimination.

Hello and welcome! After I realized I had AS, I began attending support groups. They have been immensely beneficial. I've been attending support groups for 3.5 years.

I also have received occupational therapy which helped with my sensory integration disorder, which came along with AS for me.

My life has definitely changed for the better.

AS and Bipolar Disorder together wrecked so much havoc in my life that for a long time, I thought it was completely ruined. I don't believe that anymore. I was given a new start.

Hey there
Diagnosis can be beneficial for joining some support groups organized by institutions that require a diagnosis from you to join.
It can also be helpful to you personally because you will affirm for yourself whether you have it or not for sure so that there are no uncertainties.

I guess you should decide for yourself. Consider all the advantages and disadvantages, write them out on a list, and see whether you will benefit from it. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get diagnosed.

Find something positive you can do and build on your abilities and not what others say are your faults.
