I'm a web designer, and I would like to help contribute to the site!

Namely, I would like to help build a beautiful new Web "3.0" template for the site. Improve navigation and reading, improve SEO, and create a design that people here can be damn proud of. I would like to know who the current webmasters and admins are, so I can speak to them about it. I will be working on a functional design which I will host elsewhere in the meantime, and I will show it off here periodically for any interested in seeing what I can help do for the site!

I am knowledgeable mostly in concept, navigation, SEO, art, and CSS. I do not excel so in PHP, but taking a look around, I see that somebody here IS good with PHP, or at least knows enough to get things running.

I do not wish to work on a design completely alone. I will need a couple of extra hands to finish the potential new site.
I am also very good with WordPress and can also design well with phpBB-- so if the admins are okay with the platforms, I think the combination of them would perform all the functions and provide all the services that WrongPlanet.net already performs and provides. WordPress and phpBB are the easiest, most flexible, most popular, and most well-support platforms of their kinds, so I strongly encourage us to use them in the future.

(Some people hold the belief that WordPress is an insecure and awful platform. I hold the belief that these people haven't studied web design very much or took much time looking for design inspiration-- WordPress is actually almost flawless (long discussion), can do anything imaginable (usually easily), and is used in most of the greatest sites in the world. Its security is very good out-of-the-box, but, like most platforms, is only as good as what the webmasters set up for it. It is only attacked often due to its popularity, just like Microsoft vs Mac OS's. Plus it's simple to use and absolutely free. Needless to say, I strongly encourage its use.)

Just a few potential features of the new site:

*Beautiful, clean, modern, lively green and blue design
*Responsive-- the site will change its layout depending on how wide the browser is to accommodate to various sizes, even phones
*Easier navigation
*Great SEO
*Ads that cater more to the visitors' interests

So what do we think? Even if people don't think it's a good idea to give WrongPlanet.net a full upgrade, I would still like to know if we are eager for any particular improvements. Even if I can't help build a new design, I can still help elsewhere! :D

Yes!

I love WrongPlanet and great web design, and I don't really have enough PHP experience to offer my services for money.

Either way, I'll get to work on a design soon and post links and snapshots. People ALWAYS like what I have to offer! :D

Someone opened a can of buzzwords! Web 3.0? WordPress? SEO? The Trencher would be happy if the site had more than 10 items in the RSS feed!

Actually, I think he's offering -OUR- services for free. "I will need a couple of extra hands to finish the potential new site." He must be an idea man. We can do the grunt work to implement his "flawless" design!

Ah, don't be like that, man. I do almost all the work. I just will need some help implementing a few php functions so that the new site can do all the things the current site can do. Don't read in-between the lines so much. 8)

You're assuming the worst. The reason I put it like that was because I have only so much space to talk about it. I'll show you guys later by linking to functioning work and showing screenshots.

i would advise you just to talk to alex directly instead. the forum has no power to decide anything

Sounds like a plan. I'll get on it.

My advice - forget the PHP entirely. Make a good HTML layout/mockup for the site and let someone else deal with integrating that with a forum engine.

Actually, forum-to-blog integration is easy. I can do that myself, too. I'm talking about other, smaller stuff. See! Unlike what's-his-name said, I'm not useless! Yaaay!

Thanks sliqua:

My advice...

Look, The codebase that WP runs on is about 6 years old. It's really old stuff. In order to transfer the DB across to phpBB 3.0.1_ it's going to take... hours and hours. Everything will need to be manually inserted.

Take my advice, Theme up PHP-Nuke. This'll actually make integration easier.
