Wrongplanet Community,

We have applied some pretty awesome modifications to the backend of the site today, namely a deployment of Cloudflare's new Railgun technology.

A little on how Railgun works in the form of an infographic:
Image

There are additional technical details up at https://www.cloudflare.com/railgun

Our hope is that it's a change which will cut down on the number of error messages you receive from Cloudflare. In addition, it should optimize the performance of the site in general, so you should notice everyday actions (yes, even dynamic actions such as creating new posts) getting faster.

Please let us know if you run into any related issues or have any questions, comments, or feedback (hopefully positive). :-)

Happy Holidays!
-Alex from Sliqua

This website is offline

No cached version is available
What's wrong?
The most likely causes:

The server is down for maintenance
There may be a network problem
The site may be experiencing excessive load

I've certainly noticed a big difference since we made the change to railgun. Cool! 8)

Hi TallyMan,

Yes, that was me restarting the Railgun service to apply an update. Should be good to go now.

Thanks,
Alex

Railgun? A very fitting name. Thanks Alex, site's working great.

Hmm, impressive and very fast indeed - a whole page appears to "snap" onto the display in one shot.
There is an empty white page displayed for under a second immediately before the page appears, for any action requiring a screen refresh (preview/view post, select a page in a thread etc) but it's a cosmetic effect only.

Things seem faster today.

I look forward to fewer error messages in the future. Thank you for the update.

Reposting into this thread as it's also relevant.

When this occurs, if you could attempt to provide two bits of feedback for us to look into the issue it would be greatly appreciated.

1) A traceroute
2) Output of http://www.wrongplanet.net/cdn-cgi/trace if you can access it.

There are intermittent issues with servers which happens when you have thousands in production globally. If they don't resolve within a few seconds to minutes, the output above provides us with a way to report issues.

Feel free to email the output to noc at sliqua.com.

Thanks,
Alex

I noticed there's a difference when you traceroute wrongplanet.net compared to www.wrongplanet.net as the www goes through cloudflare.

wrongplanet.net (not going through cloudflare)

Sorry, yes. There is a difference between traceroutes to www.wrongplanet.net and wrongplanet.net.

To troubleshoot Cloudflare issues, tracerouting to www.wrongplanet.net is more relevant. :-)

for the last couple of days, navigation has been fast, but posting submission has been very, very slow. i don't really know any of the technical jargon you're asking about, but i thought i'd mention that in case it is useful.
