Strange that this hasn't happened to me yet (except for avatar changing). I do hope the situation improves for what appears to be the majority of the rest of the site's users...

I've just finished listening to a talk on radio Wzen.org. Possibly not everyone's cup of tea but certainly more restful and inspiring than tackling relentless Captchas!

I can think of only one solution at the moment...

E-mail Alex. All of us who are having troubles with the captchas. Put captcha and wp it somewhere in the subject line so even if he doesn't read them he'll know what they are all about. This is not a minor issue, it is annoying a lot of users and if it keeps going on it will drive them away, as Tallyman said. Some have already stated they will stop coming to WP until that problem is solved. I don't know id this counts as spamming, but I believe it doesn't; in the US the process of writing letters to one's representative or government is mentioned often enough for me to notice, and perhaps a high volume of letters will force him to take action sooner than he otherwise would, which could perfectly be way too late. He's late already.

I will begin writing a letter now.

While this may sound like a great idea it can be compared to harassing someone and you may have issues with wp/the law if you choose to go this way.

Not saying I dont share your frustration, just advising everyone to be careful on what they are getting into.

I d suggest those of us who have issues could go to a temporary forum and say so in our signatures et all, this forum would hopefully be managed more closely but Im not sure if the idea will catch on

WP Forum isn't a legally valid forum anyway, because (like I said before) Alex has stripped out the legitimate copyright information for phpBB ; and replaced it with his own sketchy copyright information - assumedy this is to make it look like he wrote the forum software himself, even though he clearly never did anything of the sort.
If the phpBB creators were to hear about that, well.... he could be in deep water.

That being the case, if Alex has any sense at all then he won't be running to the solicitor and making legal threats just because he doesn't like people notifying him about the sh***y state WP forum is in.

8) Just saying....

It's totally self-absorbed, inconsiderate and neglectful to behave as though it's fine to just leave the forum in its present condition, while ignoring everybody who's trying to contact him.

So yeah, my advice would be to go ahead and write Alex all of the letters you want about the pathetic state which the forum is in.
;-)

My understanding is that he's using an antique version of phpBB (ten YEARS old ! !!) even though the latest stable edition is less than a year old (and much better - obviously ! !!) , which is beyond lazy.

I don't think Alex has anything to do with the CAPTCHAs, it's from Cloudflare. Hopefully he can figure out a way to disable them.

Well, it was him who signed up WP to the Cloudflare / Captcha service in the first place.

It's easy to disable them ; for all but the most dangerous visitors to WP forum.
I posted about it before.
It takes no "figuring out" whatsoever.
It's remarkably simple to do, and would take less than two minutes from start to finish.

But, he does need to get off his duff and actually do it.....

:-D That's excellent !

I'm not putting up with more stupid Captcha nonsense today, so I'm off to play Magic the Gathering over XBL ; because I find that rather restful. :-) Not half as relaxing as Zen radio though, I'm sure ! !!

I can't hardly read those things! Every time I have to stop and go get my glasses. Then half the time I type it in wrong and have to do it all over again! Make Alex stop with that please.

;-) Chance would be a fine thing.
It looks like he's even ignoring the moderators for WP and sub-admins for the whole WP website.

It's certainly not just you who struggles with those demented Captchas.

Why can't we at least have the ones about putting tools into a box and suchlike, instead of these lame text-based Captchas ?

Indeed, Zen is the logical course of action since there is nothing that we can do about the situation. Time to play some borderlands.

Perfect timing! The radio program which you mentioned (wzen.org) has downloadable podcasts which I will be able to listen to off-line. Thanks! :)

I'm not getting any today. It's strange though, due to a site error and the CloudFlare BS combined, I couldn't even make posts yesterday. This has caused me a lot of distress. It caused me to have a meltdown during which I ended up self-harming, which hasn't happened in a long, long time.

This NEEDS to be sorted out as soon as possible. For some people, posting on Wrong Planet is the only type of interaction they experience regularly, so errors like this cannot be allowed to go on for such long periods of time.

As of 10:40AM pacific time, 7//22/13, I am being forced to enter characters every single time I post OR EDIT anything. I understand if there's an immediate spambot problem that's being worked on, but PLEASE, I hope this is TEMPORARY!! !! !!

I've minimized posting because of the captchas, though it has given me a little more opportunity to catch up on other stuff.
