I have no problem with ads on the site. They pay the bills. I understand that.

I don't like the fact that you share our personal details with the advertisers. An Aldi ad just pushed "Roisin's Chocolates" at me.

That is invasive.

Now I'm thinking of leaving.

I'm eating Aldi's chocolate at this moment in time. It is really nice you know.

Nothing wrong with Aldi.

Telling their Ad my name is Roisin so they can personalise the add - Not on. Now I'm paranoid.

I don't think WP has directly passed on anything to advertisers. It is more likely the advertisers have "scraped" the HTML that will pass to your browser and extracted your username from it to include in their advert. Not WP's fault, but it is still none the less quite scary the lengths advertisers are going to to appear like your friend / familiar, but in reality it just freaks people out.

I'll just add that it may even be your internet service provider that has passed information to the advertiser - I remember reading about this a couple of years ago that it was going to be trialled in the UK and it stirred up quite a stink, most people hated the idea. The idea is that your internet provider takes the HTML that you should receive directly from whatever site you're viewing and first passes it to another company who inserts adverts then passes you the modified web page.

I've owned and run enough web sites in my day to have a sense of the expenses involved and the need for advertising. That said, for my personal browsing I usually enjoy running some form of ad and tracking blocking extensions.

I got a six pack of Coke in Aldi for £2.19.

That's about 36p a tin.

You can't whack it.

You was ripped off, you should've used a rolled up brochure. They come free or two for the price of one.
