Hah, if only we (me & TallyMan) had such abilities.
But since you've named me specifically - it's neither my decision nor within my remit to do anything like this with WP's code.

Also, in addition to what TallyMan said, this would entail major redesigns of practically everything involved with WP: post layout, functionality of the button (Has this member already "liked" this post? How many "likes"? Where/how to display them?), where/how that information is stored in a changed database structure without breaking the existing one, creating the required code to make it all work, etc.
Outside of any of this is whether it's really appropriate on a support forum to encourage the appearance of a popularity contest. This isn't Facebook.
I'm sure that some members would find it upsetting to see certain posters "always" getting liked, while they never do. You've doubtless seen "The unpopular WP members club" thread and although that was created partially in jest, there is an element of truth to it.

But there are more important and seriously annoying bugs here which really require attention before considering the addition of bells & whistles; the problem with any of this is that the codebase is very old, uses seriously outdated techniques, is so heavily patched and in such a fractured state that it's better all round to replace it entirely.
Even if what replaces it doesn't include a "like" button, at least it would be in a better condition and would make the creation of such additions more feasible - and as the code would be current, plug-ins or similar modules providing additional functionality are likely to be available ready-built.

It was a joke - a while ago, some guy was really passionate about it and kept asking you specifically to add it, ignoring any explanation you gave. Guess that was further in the past than I thought.

Hi Folks,

I've been referring a lot of people to this site, many who have been recently diagnosed and need just a bit of mentoring. A typical question is "What is an 'NT?"" Is there a place, as in a specific discussion that is stickied, I can refer them too. I'm running into a lot of people who are really self-conscious and need a friendly place to get a handle on things.

Regards,
Rob

The site search turned up surprisingly little with "what is an NT" and there is no sticky as such - but this is excellent:

Cool! It there a chance of creating an obviously placed section for those who are newly self-diagnosed and in shock, where they can get a quick orientation to the jargon and tribal knowledge of the autism community? Perhaps it could be called "Jargon and Tribal Knowledge of Autism"

People generally have more detailed or specific questions than a FAQ can properly answer so they tend to just post them anyway and invariably, several people pop up with answers and more information.
That's mostly why WP exists.

You know how when you are looking at threads on a forum and the title is blue then - I forget what goes in what order, but it's blue green blue green? Well I keep clicking on the wrong threads because it tricks my eyes. Could we just have alternating rows of color, one line blue, one line green, one line blue, one line green? I can't be the only one this is happening to.

I'm curious why there is no forum for abuse here. As spectrumites I would hypothesize that we're at a much higher risk for abuse than the general population. There are numerous threads in various forums where members have talked about abuse, both physical (assault, rape, etc) and emotional (bullying, being used, etc), yet there is no forum to unify those threads in a cohesive structure. In my opinion, abuse is a common "co-morbid" of an ASD diagnosis, just like bi-polar, depression, etc, and I personally think the site would benefit from such a forum.

I would say a large proportion of our population, both NT and ASD, have bee exposed to some kind of sexual abuse. It goes under-reported, I believe, because victims tend to "slough it off"; they might even forcefully erase the memory from their consciousness. I know I did.

A thread like that would be good--there should be stricter rules than in other forums about verbal abuse, trolling, etc.

I believe this sort of thread would be quite cathartic, and will assist the victim in transcending what was done to him/her ("moving on," if you will), thus enabling the person to realize his/her full potential.

^ Are you sure people would like to make public what happened to them? Some "things" happened to me when I was 5 / 6 years old and there is no way in hell I'd go into any details on a public forum.

That's understandable, if "reported" means "tell absolutely anyone who cares to look".

There are certain things which are most definitely not up for public examination.
You'd tell your innermost secrets, fears and worries to the general invisible and anonymous Internet public? 8O

I'm not saying if you've been abused you have to talk about it. I merely believe having a section devoted to abuse would provide a location to talk about it if someone wants to and a place to get support from others who have been through it, and if anything just browse and read other postings to realize they're not alone.

Furthermore, the tenor of a thread changes by the forum it is located in; the people that religiously post in the Politics, Philosophy, and Religion forum are different than the people that post in the Art, Writing, and Music forum. I'm thinking the Argument with Nazis thread posted in the Member's Only forum yesterday would have gotten more helpful responses and less philosophical argument had it been in an abuse labeled forum.

I really think there should be more options for gender and your diagnosis. Not everyone is male or female and not everyone is an Aspie or NT.

I thought it might be a good idea if the forum had a icon tag with a thread to specifically show which threads you posted in, that way you can easily see which threads (that you have posted in) have been replied to or posted in. Yes, I know there is the icon to show what is new but I seen on another forum an extra indicator which tells you that you've posted in the thread.

You can see all the threads to which you've posted and who made the last post to them, here:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/forumssearch ... earch.html

You can see a list of all the posts you've made by clicking on your avatar and selecting "Find all posts by kaiouti" - this:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/forumssearch ... iouti.html

Your profile currently has the option "Always notify me of replies" set as "no".
If you'd set this to "yes" and provided the EMail address given in your profile is valid, you will be mailed thread update alerts automatically when someone posts to a thread you'd posted to, or for those where you'd clicked on the "Watch this topic for replies" link at the foot of every thread (but note that his must be done from the first page of the thread).
