Is there a way you can delete everything you ever wrote on this site? I want to because most of them no longer reflect my current opinions, I don't want any potential employers reading this site, and I don't post here as much as I used to.

Not possible.

Deleting posts - especially those in ongoing threads - would cause indexing errors with all other messages, and likely crash the website.

Perhaps you can PM the mods to lock the threads you started. They would then "sink to the bottom" and not be seen again. You can also ask that your account be locked - in essence, ask to be banished. That way, no one could find you profile and trace your posts from there (I think ...).

I am sure that the mods will correct me if I am wrong.

Good luck.

Yeah, plus the mods don't have time to delete large numbers of posts. I think the most you can do is do what Fnord said. As far as work is concerned, I don't think your posting on here could negatively affect you, unless for example you've made any malicious comments, attacked another member etc. Besides, I don't think any potential boss would want to or have the time to go through 1000 forum posts.

I think this is unlikely, the other thing employers can really trace back to you is social media that uses your real name such as facebook, twitter, etc. I don't think anyone will be able to trace wrong planet post back to you unless its the NSA, so unless you want to work for the NSA, your good.

It doesn't really make sense why they can't delete posts but they don't do it. Some mods are cool and will delete/blank specific posts that might contain sensitive information if you ask.

One or two specific posts might do no harm, and may take only a few minutes.

But hundreds of posts? Not so easy. Especially if any of those posts have been quoted by other members.

Our mods have lives to lead - jobs, family, and other obligations. To ask them to spend several hours a day for a week or more deleting hiding one member's posts is too much to ask.

Of course, you could offer to pay a moderator for his or her time. The last time I checked, minimum wage was around $8.50 per hour in the USA. A week's labor would then cost a member $340.00, and more, if you add a tip.

it should be a simple matter to perform a "search and replace" on the members name so that all the content of their posts and quotes of their posts remain, but all references to their name are replaced by a unique index ID tag.

i read somewhere on this forum that a complete post wiping had only been done once, and i imagine this is much earlier in the sites history, if it happened at all. it probably leads to indexing and context nightmares, like previously mentioned. alex, and maaybe one of the sliqua guys are the only one that can do it. more often profiles get deleted from the database (i assume this is what happens), and clicking their username leads to a dead end. the posts still remain and even this is hardly ever done. moderators do not have tools for this.

this! precisely this. i have absolutely no problem with editing or hiding a few posts with sensitive information, the less are quoted, the better. sending mountains of posts are out of the question. and them some mods may wonder why foresight wasn't had in the writing of the posts in the first place.

being the OP of a thread alone won't guarantee that it can get locked and allowed to sink, but in general, the more "personal" the topic is (like a haven topic), the more sense it makes to do that. :)

accounts can also be closed (banned) on request.

a PM is all that's needed.

Alec needs to get rid of the captcha bug. I cannot send long PMs because the idiotic captcha bug sends me in circles.

I wanted to respond to the guy with suitable quotes explaining why we can't delete 1861 posts en masse.

Depends on the mods. You don't actually own anything you post here or on any forum. It becomes public property.

This is not technically true.

The discussions wouldn't show, and the comments would be missing.

Cache if used is usually cleared on delete and, if not it won't make a differnce it will eventually clear.

The relationships would still be there with the other posts.

Very disruptive, but it won't crash the site. It is bad idea to allow it for most users.

I develop for forums, and know phpBB.
