I am in awe in how constantly SLOW this site loads!

I am on high speed internet, as is most people in my country, and for me, this particular website takes a long time to start loading content. It is very frustrating to jump from one topic to another when it takes a minute or so just for the request to get through! It is like being on dial-up or satellite internet where the ping time is long!

I wish more people would donate to this website (I would be willing to) and see some new servers put into use to ease the CONSTANT congestion of this website. What does everyone think? (I'm an idiot, yeah, but the lack of patience is one of my weak points)

Pages are loading a little faster for me after installing SilverLight earlier this evening, but that might not be the reason. Sometimes my ISP gets slow when it is really busy.

The "Support Wrong Planet Awareness!" link at the top of this page makes it possible to set up a monthly contribution, and maybe someone could tell us how many more regular contributors it would take in order for WP to be able to afford whatever would be needed to make things run more quickly.

I find it horrendously slow most of the time except afternoon in my country. Sometimes I am waiting a minute or two for it to load yet, I can download discographies and movies very quickly. It is frustrating and it never used to be as bad a year or so ago.

It is unfortunate as this site is so successful, but without funds there is no way to find a faster server, I'm not sure how this site is hosted at the moment, I takes awhile for WP to load for me aswell

yes, the site is slow. not as slow as it USED to be, but slow it is, totally grinding to a halt and having to take a time out to start grinding away again. The Daily Grind of WrongPlanet.net

It's the servers and the age and obsolescence of the software, the lack of funding and direction to get anything more than just stabilizing what WP is now. The Support Wrong Planet Awareness link on the top of every page is how the site is funded as the Google ads are not doing much in this economy. Back in the day the ads pretty much powered the site, but now WP is more in need than ever of member donations.

It would be a pity if we lost our web presence.

I guess updating the software would be a good idea, it would maybe run a little faster, I use MyBB on my forum, As for the servers and funding, would getting an investor for WP be a good idea ? a person that is willing to pay towards the hosting but owns say 25% of WP

It doesn't seem to be a problem for me. But then again, I'm used to using slow computers. Honestly, just deal with it. Not the end of the world if you have to wait a couple more seconds for a page to load. But they should consider adding a second server or something, as this site gets busier and busier.
