Are mods kept an eye on? How are they selected? Any vetting?

Haven't had a run in with any mods so I have nothing but sympathy for them. Being a mod on any forum is tough but to be a mod here you must be a special breed.

SaveFerris, you try saying that after writing paragraphs only for the thread to be locked with no reason or username (oh, it must be so tough to do anything without taking any responsibility for it), or as in my most recent case, the person not admitting that they got something wrong even after realizing nothing that was written, apart from a link solely added for comical effect, was satire. Or doing nothing about countless conspiracies on PPR while locking threads that included actual evidence... for some time rule that expired weeks ago. No, I wouldn't say it's tough at all, it merely requires a propensity for irrational dictatorial desire, it seems.

Mootoo , personaly I think you have been given a lot of leeway. I don't want to comment on any locked threads as this is against WP rules in case you didnt know. Yes you feel that you have been wrongly censored and that can be very infuriating ( I know from personal experience ) but you are going about this the wrong way. You can't openly attack a mod and expect to get anywhere positive. If a thread is locked it is usually for a good reason , if you feel it was locked in error then you need to PM the mod involved - if this gets you nowhere then unfortunatly there is no recourse. I've seen a lot of boardicide's ( board suicide ) and done it myself several times because I felt wronged. On other forums it is a very funny thing to watch as a poster slowly destructs but on a help forum like this it is upsetting for me to watch - if you like this forum may I suggest that you either take a break or move on ( from the topic ) , lifes too short to get wound up about a post on a forum.

It's not about one post... if it keeps happening again and again then there simply can be no discussion, except perhaps on threads that are all-caps and proclaim the truth, because as anyone knows as long as one claims up is down it must absolutely true. How is it possible that threads can't be discussed? That's like saying in a court that evidence can't be examined, but somehow the case proceeds. Like Kafka's random happenings... and no, I speak out about totalitarians anywhere, even if they're nerds... as Zimbardo's experiment showed, anyone is capable of caustic irrationality, and the least I can do is speak out about it...

If you feel that other people are being given more leeway than you are then please report them when they break the rules :)

i see mods as kind of counselors in a way.
sometimes i say things that are inappropriate and without a mod warning, i would never have known.

people in real life just "wear you" no matter what they think because they want to be polite and stuff, and they harbor all their disagreements in a cove of their mind inaccessible to my observation.

but mods here will advise me about the efficacy of my posts when they are injudicious.

mods have to be rather normal and versatile. a severely autistic person who is not balanced socially can never be a mod.

so i trust them.

god i can not be bothered to read anything but topic titles and very few posts, so i can not imagine how they saddle themselves up with the responsibility of perusing all the crap that gets posted.

I've only had positive responses to my posts by mods. No warnings or anything. So I guess I've not written anything inappropriate. If ever I do, then I would appreciate being told so. Thanks mods. I think you try to read as much as possible. I couldn't. There are things i actually don't want to read! That's personal preference, not a criticism of the posters! :D

I support the mods. I've only had a run in once but thats due to my not realisin what I had written may have been interpreted differently.

I can't help but feel that some people antagonise mods

Questioning how someone gets their job is a bit rude imo

Unfortunately this is not a court of law. Your membership here is a privelage not a right and by using this forum you are agreeing to the terms of service. One of the terms of service lists unnaceptable behaviour as

Quote:
discussion of locked topics, discussion of banned members and why they were banned and anything else that purposely causes conflict with other members.

This may seem like an unfair rule especially if one of your threads is locked but it is a common rule on forums and nothing new.
I dont want to seem harsh but take it from someone who knows , if you keep harping on about it you might get labled as a troublemaker and every post you make will be monitored, not just by mods but by members who police the site looking for infractions and if you rock the WP boat too much you will be made to walk the plank ( banned ).

Oh, my mistake, Assad should totally not be questioned. Putin neither, especially if in Russia.

No one has any right to be a dictator!

Ferris, I frankly couldn't care less. There are better designed fora out there, way better managed, with possibly less neuroticism.

This isn't a country it's a site developed by a person. That person has the right to decide the content on their site.

Just because your not a fan of the rules in place doesn't make it a dictatorship and is insulting to people who live in dictatorship countries

Well, should we come up with a neologism then? The main difference is physicality... dictatorships are still dictatorships if they fulfil the basic definition.

Well... The Evil Dictators of Evil Dictatorship haven't yet implemented serfdom on WrongPlanet ...

... so you are free to leave this website - which you clearly have nothing but contempt for - in favor of these better designed fora at any time, Motoo...
