It's simple really, the Google Adsense bot "reads" the text on the page (i.e. the words that you and others have posted there) and assigns the ads to that page accordingly.

Then why do we get the acid reflux one? How is it connected to our conversations here?

After I post this, the string <acid reflux> will appear three times on this page alone: Once in RainSong's post, once in yours, and here again in mine. That's all the Adsense bot needs — "One or two, or maybe three ads, comin' right up." In other words, it is not entirely random.

Awhile back, I posted in a thread about dress codes in Islam and the requirement for Muslim women to wear burqa, hijab or chador. Not coincidentally, an ad for a Muslim dating service appeared on one of the pages.

I get the acid reflux one too. Maybe they think we aspies and autistics have indigestion?

One I used to get a lot is all these ads suggesting I get an Indian wife, it had pictures of some beautiful women for me to choose from, though I am not gay. It would come up a lot. Nowadays I get this terrible ad with before and after pictures of people with stomach fat and then after they had tried the ingenious product. I became very annoyed at these, especially since I have stomach fat... and set my adblock to its full power... no more picture ads.

Some of those fat to thin ads scare me. They're all irritating (I need to lose some stomach fat as well, unfortunately), but... when I'm wearing my glasses (as opposed to contacts), things seem thinner, so maybe that's it, but in the past few days, I've seen one where the after picture looked completely unhealthy (my first thought was anorexia), and a different one where the before picture looked absolutely fine (and not fine in the 6/8 dress size sense, but in the I'm-a-bikini-model-fit sense).

Right now, I've got the typical autism ad bar across the top (Asperger Answers, Hear Our Voices, and Building Bridges Therapy) and the Sun Pill on the side, which apparently is a pill that I can take once a day (or year, depending on how far down you read and/or which statement you believe) and never worry about sun screen. Which actually doesn't sound bad, if it weren't fake. And Lens Crafter will give me 50% off complete eyeglass purchase, which again, would be great if I believed it.

That is the reason why I adblocked them for good. The last thing I want to be thinking about is my ample stomach when I am on here, I come to escape...

Yes, I see myself as larger than I really am, so the stomach ads are very unsettling. I have Norton, and I don't think it has adblockers. I googled for one but
