As far as I know, it's not possible unless you modify the forum software.
Apart from that it seems to me just a little bit unethical...

Uh... why would they do that? Also, why are you so concerned about it? Have you been naughty via PM again?

Because I send a photo of my torso to one of the members here but the recipient said she hadn't seen it but one of the moderators who she was quite friendly with Iand apparently was quite protective of her) had. Given her reputation on these forums I thought this was quite a curious strange of events.

as an addition to my earlier comment I must say we don't routinely read them only when we feel the need to ;)

The mod don't have the capabilities, only Alex does.

Maybe said mod just knew your photbucket/flickr/imageshack address.

I thought this had already been done to death somewhere else?
Anyways; no, we can't read any PMs unless they're addressed to us as individuals - which is to say; exactly the same situation as members.

No, we do not have this ability. Admins can though, but probably don't.

As already said, moderators do not have access to members PMs sent to other people. Alex has access but as far as I'm aware he only looks at PMs in serious circumstances - for example if a member complains they have received threats of violence from another member or are being sexually harassed or if police / legal involvement is necessary.

Alex can, and will, read the PMs of anyone, if he so wishes to. So be wise when you send sensitive PMs and don't assume the best.

Not saying this is a crime from Alex (I personally don't care). But to the members and mods (yes, you, Tallyman) here, be realistic and don't make up stuff.

I think they're lying about it but I can't prove anything. I wasn't thinking of alex so much as the other moderators on this site.

What's the situation with phpBB?

As far as I know there has only been one incident and he looked through a moderator pms because he was concerned that they might be planning something behind his back(which was the case) so I dont see why an average user should be concerned about alex reading his pms.

Also pms cant be read by mods but if you go too far a member may start complaining about it in the open and a mod will eventually come across their complaints/recipient´ll report the message to a mod so I´d be carefull about what you are sending to others.

The only way one can have access to the PMs is by accessing the database. If the mods don't have access to it, then they can't check the PMs.

I will say one good thing for those hoping that Alex wouldn't read their PMs. There are obviously way too many PMs here for him to read that he'd have to spend days reading them all. And I doubt he has time to do so.

You do realize that once you do get to access reading the PMs made by the mods, you have access to all the PMs made by all the members. That can be scary for some members here.

I realize that.
Im just saying that the pm incident happened with mods not with members and at the moment none of the mods have anything to hide from alex as far as I know so I doubt it ´ll happen again anytime soon.

Again mods cant access pms(they could in the past but alex took away admin tools because they were overusing them...)

What happens is that the receiver can complain about unwanted pms(wether directly to a mod or just posting about it here/elsewhere and a mod coming across it) and we work from there if we think that theres need to do something about it
