Interesting. I use AdBlock and NoScript, plus I impose my own CSS to get rid of the rubbish at the top of the page, bottom of the page and left of the page. I've not seen this extra garbage.

It's sad, the extent one has to go to, to make the site autism-friendly.

I don't have a problem with experimentation but I'd like some notice about it before it happens; I missed it if there was a notice. I assumed there was a problem with my browser & was frustrated for nothing

Agreed. I agree with the posts on here so far---it seems none of us like this. As Titangeek has said, we Aspies generally don't like change. And I agree---don't fix something that isn't broken. And about turning away new and old members---I agree. I will leave if this facebook toolbar doesn't go away. Not only is it annoying to me (as I said in an earlier post), but I consider it an insult to me. I am not a social person. I found WrongPlanet as a wonderful home for my social life. I feel at home with the members. But now, I feel as though this home has been trespassed upon by that thing that I find so overwhelming and annoying and useless---social networking sites such as facebook. If we want to facebook---we know how to get to that site---we don't need it popping up in our faces. Why is it here in the first place? Is there some gain for having it on here?

I am an easy going guy, but now, I have been upset to the point of being very vocal about this.

If it is still here in two days, I am gone until it is gone. And if it is a permanent fixture to WrongPlanet, then I will be gone along with other members---permanently.

Previously I had AdBlock

The New Annoyances require the addition of NoScript

Of which - can be annoying to train for quite some time, but worth it.

As I suggested above, I have not even seen this new "addition" to the site.

So far as I am concerned, well announced and useful enhancements to the site are welcome. There have been none. I'll stay here, as long as I can inhibit all non-useful changes. Once it becomes impossible to suppress the intrusive stuff, I also will be gone.

I agree with all of these bells and whistles being extremely unnecessary, but the site itself definitely needs an across-the-board upgrade.
It's horribly outdated.

That will be a very very sad day at WP

Facebook....

Can someone please blow up its headquarters and burn all of its holdings.

Thank you.

I am the type of Aspie that has a strong adherence to set routines and rituals. And I am not alone here. Many of us don't like change. WrongPlanet should be supportive of that. That is why some of us have asked for the option of making this toolbar disappear. As far as adblock and stuff, I tried that before for popups----and it screws my computer up. It doesn't work on mine without causing problems for me. I have been living with the popups, but there's something very different about the annoyance of the facebook toolbar.

So...as an Aspie that doesn't like change---I think we should have the option of wanting a non-changing page if we want it. This site is here for support, isn't it? I have the right to feel comfortable. As I said, the adblock doesn't work on my computer---in fact, it made things worse on my startup.

So...can the facebook toolbar be made an option for each one of us that doesn't want it so we don't have to see it?

Thank you.

It is very annoying and distracting, if you minimize it at the bottom it pops up at the side obscuring the view.

Indeed. I tend to lose it and avoid websites when they change unavoidably. I was reading a forum related to one of my favorite videogames every day until they changed the format, and now I don't go there at all.

Anyway, I found that noscript, "forbid sharethis" will eliminate the bar and things will be back to normal. So I'm not yet prepared to hide from Wrong Planet.

The added functionality isn't problematic to me, but how it appears is intrusive. I think having a tool to share posts, etc. on facebook/twitter/reddit/whatever is a great idea, but making it an omnipresent bar at the bottom of the window instead of something you can interact with at the end of a page and thus scroll off the screen makes my brain hurt. Sliding ads on salon.com drive me up the wall as well, as do animated ads in general (I literally can't read Wrong Planet without adblock - which sucks as ads are one way many websites support themselves).

Something that is an element of the page that's not intrusive - yes. Something that is a meta element that overlays the page, or moves around - no, I can't handle it.

Thanks for the tip on the noscript, Vigilans. I was playing around with it with no success. I'll do what you did.

Are you sure that wasn't my noscript tip? ;)
