This started happening for me recently as well. I'm running Chrome 21.0.1180.41 beta-m on Windows 7 x64. Chrome runs a separate process for each tab and each such process with WP open uses up 100% of one CPU core - I can see that in Process Explorer. I've got a quad-core CPU, so 4 WP tabs use all up of it.

It's definitely JavaScript and from a quick profile in Chrome Developer Tools it looks to be the a.port1.onmessage function in http://ajax.cloudflare.com/cdn-cgi/nexp ... are.min.js - but I'm not about to try to figure out that whole minified file.

I can't access WP on my iPod/iPad either. At first I thought it was just a problem with Safari so I cleared my browsing history and cookies. No go. I downloaded a different web browser from the app store and I still doesn't work.

How much RAM do you have on your iPod/iPad? I had to upgrade my laptop from 1 GB to 2 GBs for the reason you mention. I was having problems with other websites too. But then again, WP has had it's share of problems where I couldn't access WP.

The problem I was talking about on the first page has now fixed itself, something interesting to note is that there is no drop-down function under Discussion anymore, there was before. IE has never had it as a drop-down.

I have 8GB Ram on my machine and still experience intermittent problems

I think both devices have 256 MB of RAM. Up until a couple days ago, I was able to access WP just fine. This has got to be the problem or else it would have worked fine when I started using the new browser.

I'll chime in and say I have no issues running Chrome. Could it be a regional, ISP, or OS issue?

It has been fixed already. But at least two days ago at nightime there was still a problem.

It has been fixed.

A few day ago the Wrongplanet pages used up a lot of CPU (the view background pages list in Chrome shows the resource usage of each individual pages). It did not prevent me from using the site (but my laptop got hot and the fan ran a lot more than normal).

Yep definitely fixed. It was one of those issues that wouldn't really have been noticeable on a desktop/laptop (unless it's particularly old). On a lower power device like an iPad it was pretty horrific.
