I wonder if there is a limit on how many words it will convert into adverts in a post?

For a little fun; trying...

Where to get a cheap loan to buy diet pills or viagra and the latest DVD movie or maybe purchase an iPad or iPod. Better to make money or invest in shares then lose weight in the process of exercise while looking for good deals online for some shopping.

 It lit up like a Christmas tree.

This has nothing to do with any browser...
This is just an odd attempt to push (even more) ads to us.

I wrote my first post to let someone know I don't think this way of ads is really bad and not the way to go.

I know it probably costs a bit to keep this site running, but this is really annoying.

I dislike adblockers.
Someone created us a website we like and use - and by using adblockers we are really not supporting the future of this site.

It does if you simply want to prevent certain things from displaying - that's difficult or not possible with some browsers.
Looking at what's currently blocked here I see "infolinks.com" among the other stuff, so I'm guessing that blocking only that site would prevent the conversion of text into links while not blocking other more conventional page-based ads.

I notice the lack of complaints too relative to the amount of membership activity; so either most people aren't seeing the adverts due to ad blocking technology or they don't mind them. I doubt Alex would remove an valuable income source unless a lot of members objected. It will be interesting to see how many complaints there are after 24 hours.

I wish this worked, I tried it. But it does not work for me.

I'm on Internet explorer, I tried the above advice too , I pressed the "?" and then choose to "decline/opt out" , then it just brings up another duplicated window of the WP page I'm on without the green linky's, but when I close the duplicate window the green linky's are still present even after I press " refresh" , so I'm sort of paranoid of some sort of spyware here.

I had to open IE just to see what it's like. I assume it's some of the words being green and you click on them?

Infolinks is an advertising system used by website developers which gets the website revenue but as far as I know, I didn't like using it and decided to dump infolinks as it was not really much help. He should have used Kontera (which is similar to Infolinks).

Also I have to say, it's really really annoying.

I wonder if Alex gets revenue per click, per view or a fixed amount, but if this is what is needed for better servers or the new wp then so be it

Infolinks should be per clicks (including per impression). The server is pretty expensive I would assume since there's just too much hits on there and it can be a huge problem when there is not enough, hence why Alex has advertising such as Tribal Fusion or Google Adsense to cover the cost of the servers.

So if we all click loads of infolinks Alex will make more money for the site? Any idea how much? I'm guessing it would be something trivial like ten clicks for 1 cent/penny? There must also be some sort of fraud prevention to prevent click fraud too - e.g. someone on the same IP couldn't click hundreds of links one after the other?

I maximized the goofy "infolinks" page, and hit "opt out." It bounced me to the main page of Wrong Planet with words still highlighted (especially see as you scroll down).

And Refreshing did not help.

(I am using Internet Explorer at my local public library.)

Yes, it would make him one rich guy yet it could increase the chance of him getting banned for invalid click activities (basically click bombing).
There should be a fraud prevention for one IP address, not sure about several ones though?
