I don't think there should be any time limits for modifying our posts. Sometimes I want to fix something on a months old resurrected thread. Also we have many posters with comorbid dyslexia, dysgraphia etc.

Completely agree with this. Surely there should be a way to poll users about the length (hopefully one option would be unlimited) and then request that specific time limit.

(and this is for all those that have seen Leslie Nielsen in the movie 'Airplane' )

The problem with having no time limit at all though is that some people who decide to leave the forum also delete every post that they made on the forum over the years, messing up threads.

Despite the complaints from many of us about "necro posting" WP has decided to encourage the practice by adding the "Similar Topics" feature so they just have to deal with the consequences. In the other forums I post in there seems to be no time limit and people want to delete their account can do so when they want to. They don't seem to run into crippling issues. In fairness necro posting happens much more often here. I would guess this happens it is because of the specromite need to research every little aspect of a topic.

There's nothing much wrong with necro-postping, as long as the topic is still relevant. It's only a problem when people bump old threads where someone was looking for advice and by that stage, they've either left or solved their problem long ago.

I'd like a longer time too. It seems to be about 25 minutes, which just isn't enough for me. Even though I generally proof read before I post, I also tend to remember to add things after I've actually posted.

Also there is the problem which quite a few of us here seem to have (and I am definitely included in this!) of posting things we shouldn't really say when we are angry and then feeling bad about it when we calm down. Of course we should try and control that, but it's damn near impossible at times and I feel that the best thing to do is to give folks the option of going back and deleting or at least rewording some of that. Other times, when you get caught up in an ongoing conversation via posts, you can accidentally put some personal info in and not catch it until later, or there may be a time when you need to put up personal info for only a short time and delete it later - as I have done before with my phone number.

I'd be curious to know whether or not more mod time is taken up going back to delete things now that the edit time is so short.

Another reason is that when people who are just so very anal and picky about grammar, spelling and phrasing post, they may end up proofreading so many times that it cuts their amount of posts down drastically. People who are that picky about those things may feel too much pressure to make it perfect because it seems to be set in stone now that we may not hear very much at all from them.

i wasn't on the mod team on the old site with the 3000 minute edit time, but i haven't noticed any real difference between right after the move and not, with regards to deleting posts.
for the most part we just leave them be if they aren't blatant double posts.
