Fairly good idea, unfortunately there are a number of administrators that would abuse the privelege. I've already had a number of ban threats from a group of admins and a group of users.

While I try to see it from their view, something I'm usually really good at, I can only see abuse of power.

Sooo...restricting users like that would actually hurt a bunch of people, anyone who had a view different then the administrators would end up permanently put there or banned.

We would be walking a thin line doing any "half punishments" type things, such as restriciting members ability to post for rule infractions.

The best we can hope for is to deal with things as they come along.

I think that adding in a thread kicker (www.techgfx.com has a working example) that allowed the person that started the thread to ban users from that particuler thread would help a TON!

It'd let some people be able to win an argument for once, that's for sure  "In the thread of the blind, the one-eyed poster is King"

Excuse me, I thought this was meant to be a friendly thread, not one for people to underhandedly insult people.

I think that TAFKASH was saying "this is a bad idea" in his usual joking/sarcastic manner.

Sarcasm can be taken as offensive, are the moderators going to let this slip by as well?

Hmmm...for who? Others? While it's ok for you? This is my biggest confusion when it comes to you Kitsune. How you get quite defencive very easily, yet cannot see your attacks on others in your own behaviour.

I really honestly do not understand this.

If you are unhappy with those that are involved in the running of this site and disagree with their choices, why are you here? There choices are the reason this IS a FRIENDLY community as apposed to many others. I am greatful to be at a site where those in charge like to prevent situations where others are made to feel evil due to personal choice.

Your biggest problem and this is not an insult as it is constructive critism is you do not like to be disagreed with. I am glad that you do not have admistrative rights over any thread, started by you or not. As I am glad that many others do not have this either. As members would make choices to benifit self in said situation, while admin makes choices for the benifit of the whole.
Maybe your biggest disapointment with the Admin comes from your own expectations of how they SHOULD behave were not met. You were expecting them to side with you right from the start and they did not. They have not sided with anyone yet I can see that you feel that not agreeing with you means they are against you, though this is not true.

I think they have made the right choices by not banning you, and not getting HEAVY with anyone. They have calmly subdued the situation without having too.
This to me is excellent Admin at work.

You are amonst fellow travellers here. You do not need to fight us.

This does not pertain to anyone specifically. This is not a direct insult nor is it meant as one.

Given the past posts that he has made this is a direct insult made indirectly in another place. There is a difference here.

I've actually asked myself that a lot lately, and that's because I had contributed to this community before checking out the admins. This is not a friendly community unless you are a left winged liberal and there are threads that I can show you that prove that. While I won't point them out publically you are very welcome to request a PM of the threads in question.

I do NOT ask the admins to side with me, in fact in one thread I had to scream for an admin in bolded italic text three times before a particuler admin came in and basically gave a bored "okay, if it happens again punishment will be given" response, it kept happening and nothing was done.

The thread kicker would solve a lot of fights. While it could be used to benefit a person what's to stop the person that was kicked from just starting another thread about that person?

In real life you can go somewhere else and someone not follow you. Unfortunately in all the threads that I have posted in I have been followed by a single individual and there still has not been administrative action taken.

They have simply waited until I responded to the situation, notice that tafkash's post wasn't deleted for offensive content, nor was it edited. Though as soon as I responded I had two people jump on me... hmmm...

They have not gotten ANYTHING with anyone. It's like others are above the rules and as soon as I give even an inch of a response I get the whole site on my head.

The admins need someone with views opposite of theirs to make sure that people are being treated fairly. I run a PHP nuke powered site and I know that particuler users can be locked out of certain forums.

oooooh - i feel a new and exciting club coming on... "I've been banned by (insert name here)". with badges and t-shirts and everything. we could have special threads for each club's members! and yea, verily, there was much rejoicing and celebration as the club members swapped tales of derring do and what they did to get banned. actually, i also see a competition to get banned from threads. unless that's just my dark sense of humour...?

*sighs*

oh well - back to the cheap glee and Schadenfreude...

Hear, hear Elfy-baby! Remarkably well put! I couldn't agree more if you gave me a sizeable bribe to do so. Personally I think the moderators do a sterling job, amd accusations of bias against them are patently ludicrous.

How many brownie points does that get me?

I always find Tescos' schadenfreude a little bitter for my tastes - I usually stick to their liebfraumilch. Same with their glee - you get what you pay for basically....

Perhaps the new ignore button might help, Kitsune. The idea of staff locking a user out of a particular forum because one person dislikes them is heavy handed in the extreme, when the offender can simply be ignored. Incidentally, the overwhelming majority of the posts to which you object are simply disagreement and not personal attacks. Also, as you are not privy to any discussion by PM or on the staff forum you have no idea if the issue is being looked at, so I think you are assuming a fair bit.

tsk, tsk - and i thought you knew me better than that. i NEVER indulge in cheap anything - to paraphrase some ghastly advert or another: "because i'm worth it". AND i wouldn't grace tesco with my presence (please note, tesco is singular, not plural - and PLEASE don't anyone tell me how many stores they have, and how that makes them plural - i can't STAND obvious jokes). i try to avoid any big corporate horrors and conglomerates - they tell me one in every three quid spent on groceries in the UK is spent in tesco stores. well, mine ain't goning to be one of 'em. besides, the last time i WAS in tesco, i had a complete freak out, and had to leave. horrible, big places. AND they're over-priced.

liebfraumilch... shudders uncontrollably. i can hardly believe i even typed the word. in fact, i'd rather drink my own urine. and i'm about as far from a wine buff as you get and still be sentient, but even I know all about the misery that is lieb... no, i can't - that "beverage" you mentioned.

Now, I understand that some of you are backed into a corner, but I want you to notice who is bringing in reputable outside sources that agree with his views, and who is posting up this:

I don't know what you mean...... I really did have a chicken break in here..... Really..... I think it was a Little Red Rooster with a bit of a Mick Jagger complex, given the way it was strutting around and posing and singing "Let's lay an egg together" in that really irritating way that chickens do ..... I just told it to pluck off though and that was the end of it..... I'm going to be picking feathers out of me Dyson for weeks though......

Just thought that the people who were accusing me of expecting the admins to take sides should see what I'm going through.
