Democracy always tramples the rights of minorities. When I, the autistic staff member, serve on a committee with 7 neurotypical staff members, we do what the neurotypical staff members want to do. I don't serve on committees anymore.

IIRC, democracy was supposed to be an experiment. . .

I like the way things are here, but I think you have to take the site's goal's and content into account when considering how it is moderated.

For example, I used to post on a very heavily moderated site. No one knew who the mods were - they were invisible - and about half of the threads got deleted without explanation.

The theme of that site was animal husbandry. People came there to get advice on how to take care of their pets and how to follow all the laws that apply to the ownership of animals. So there was a lot resting on the quality of the information posted - the well-being of the animals as well as all the legal issues. There was also a lot of potential for abuse (people trying to sell animals, people posting intentionally wrong information, etc.) So in that context, I thought the stringent moderation was probably a good thing.

It's good that this site is pretty relaxed because it's an AS site and we're all pretty different. Additionally, the forums are not implied to be authoritative sources of information; they're just places for us to talk about whatever is on our minds.

Yes, that depends on the nature of the forum and making some rules, stricter rules if they get in trouble because of legal stuff, for example I have been in entertainment forums, and well, they have to be strict when it comes to posting links to download copyright material, or someone asking for downloading some stuff.

As other forums, most I think, in their rules, which they also rule against rude comments to other members and demand for respect, I asume most of the sites might be stricter in that aspect, than here.

Honestly, this site is the only one that I have seen people questioning moderation in public, now that I think about it.

Hmm. Openly, bluntly questioning systems of authority and organization. Could this be an AS-related behavior pattern?

Yes, some aspies might have ODD as well, or might not be happy with authority because of bad experiences in life, because of not being understood from their part. Impulsivness, arrogance, lack of social skills, some of the aspie traits might get someone in trouble, therefore their unhappiness with authority, however, not all aspies are like that, sure, some have questioned authority, which is not necessarily a bad thing, I believe that an empirical mind should question everything, including authority, but that doesn't mean that it's ok to be defiant or to break the rules and to harm other people. As some have had questioned authority here, I believe that the vast majority on this site, haven't and are pleased with it.

Oh, I didn't mean for that comment to be taken completely seriously - I was just being playful.

It was meant to be a humorous reference to the tendency for some of us to be unaware of social conventions, how to interact, how to express things with the right amount of subtlety, etc. I mean I was only half serious.

That's a relief :P although I knew you were kidding, I think that might be true to some extent, you sure must have some fans out there.

bluegreen? now that I remember, the thread 'rename a wp member' has been revived few days ago, I don't seem to be capable to keep with such threads, I think I kinda was before, but it requires some sort of creativity and/or mental work, doesn't it?
