My sugestion is not merging the topics, it's to create a new one from scratch and let people interested in debating this discuss it ad nauseum. It would be the ultimate reference thread on this topic.

In a buddhist forum I frequent, there is "The Great Rebirth Debate" thread. If it wasn't for that thread, people would discuss the existence/non-existence of rebirth constantly in multiple threads. Once that thread was created, there are only ocasional topics which start with the rebirth debate. If a thread starts to get on the same territory as the "Great" one, it is merged with the "Great" one. It's a clever way to avoid being plagued by the rebirth debate.

I think this strategy would be a good one to implement here, even more for the reason that this forum is 10 times bigger than the forum I'm mentioning. More than 10 active threads on guns on a subforum? In my opinion it should be dealt with in some way. It's also frustrating to people who want to debate this to repeat themselves over and over again.

Creating a central reference or discussion point has been tried at least twice, in one form or another, and faded through lack of interest.

It appears the majority of the membership prefers to debate issues as and when they arise, through the creation of dedicated threads.
As I indicated on the moderator attention thread, there are many types of topic involved with the discussion of guns and to try and force all posts relating to gun control which might arise as a gun-related discussion proceeds, into one thread, even one devoted to that alone, will not work - quite apart from the issue of unfairly attempting to force members to keep a forum free of one certain topic by corralling posts related to it into some sort of single, dedicated thread.

It's better they're in PPR which is a more appropriate place than where they started, in News and Current Events, because they rapidly morphed into becoming PPR material.
Such is the nature of discussions involving guns and that index page looks more gun-related than usual because of the topics recently moved, long overdue and en masse, from News and Current Events. It will settle down and clear soon enough.
Checking through the first several pages of the PPR topic index shows that gun-related discussions arise there time and again and rather than attempt to dictate or partition off what members want to discuss in PPR, we prefer to give them the freedom to create threads as required. They are always free to ignore or to get involved with any of those threads as they see fit.
Experience of members' posting habits shows that, especially in the case of long threads, the earlier posts are seldom read - with the result that what's been said is often repeated anyway.

One other aspect of dealing with a forum which is 10 times bigger than one in which you've seen your suggestions at work - is that it is 10 times more difficult to make it work...
We feel that the current system works well enough, even though there may be momentary floodings of threads related to a major event as it occurs, and the recent upsurge of gun-related posting merely reflects such a situation.

If you wish to continue with this, please use PM as this is a thread for simply posting suggestions as opposed to actively discussing them.

I have a new suggestion..... The only options are Aspergers - diagnosed, Aspergers - undiagnosed, not sure if I have it or not, neurotypical, and Other autism spectrum disorder. Since there is a forum here for all other neuro-diverse individuals who have disorders or conditions other than an ASD, I would suggest adding an "Other Disorder or Condition" option to the diagnosis drop down list. Also, you should add "Classic autism" as well for those who have that instead of aspergers.

In the spirit of fairness, since there's a Women's Discussion area, wouldn't it only be right if there was also a Men's Discussion area? Just a thought.

Very unusual comment for a member's first post on this site. One existed some time ago but it was abandoned due to a mixture of lack of interest and abusive sexist posts. Your suggestion frequently crops up though. The site owner 'Alex' hasn't been tempted to try the experiment again.

Well, I for one would consider calling into question the years of training and education that a male gynecologist has had simply because he's male to be quite sexist, regardless of the tone it's said in. But maybe that's just me.
I can't speak as to what was said in the Male Discussion section of the past, as I wasn't around to see it, but I can only hope that this site wouldn't be engaging in double standards.

As for this being my first post... I was browsing the forum to decide whether or not I wanted to make an account, and this issue struck me enough to decide to make one, that's all >_<

if you have spent any time browsing the site as you said, surely you would have seen that there isn't any sexism allowed in the Women's forum. we have enough trouble keeping women on the site because of the pervasive sexism against them, which we work hard to keep at bay. the last thing we need is an entire section to specially police.

hopefully there are areas of the site where you will be able to post comfortably and have your questions answered, as there are many different sections with different subject areas. also FYI, the Adult Autism Issues section is largely men, as is Politics, Philosophy and Religion, Games and Video Games, and Computers, Math, Science, and Technology.

there is also a men's discussion thread:

Browsing this site I haven't found a single bit of sexism toward women so far, but I've found some toward men. The point is that if a space exists for one, then it should exist for the other. It doesn't matter if the site is mostly men, because women are still welcomed with open arms. I really can't stand double standards, they're seriously the worst @_@

But men can use the Adult Discussion as it was a Men's Discussion and no problem. Yeah there was one, but it was politically incorrect.... I mean, offensive.

Make it so that a person can have their signature automatically be placed on every post without having to manually check the box every time.

You don't have to do that. Is "always attach my signature" in your profile settings set to "Yes"?

You can already do that from your account settings page.

this site seriously needs a few upgrades

for starters a "new thread/post" option where one can easily access all the latest threads/post would make it alot easier to navigate this site.

He he he, people have been saying that since before I got here. Alex is of the opinion that maintaining site continuity is more important than adding any new bells and whistles, as Aspies are notably sensitive to change.

Understandable. Slow, subtle change is the order of the day then - for instance, adding a "new posts" option would only be an extra button. You'd need to announce it to even make most of us notice!
