How many seconds it takes is irrelevant. The point is why not make it as easy as possible to give positive feedback to a poster? How does it hurt the site to make it possible to give positive encouragement with just one click of a button?

And again the benefit to the forum, is that it compacts all of those positive responses into one place with out lengthening the thread.

1) WP is greater than 75,000 members. You are only speaking about how a new feature would affect you. Alex and the team have to consider the greater good, which is a comfort zone for the majority of that 75,000+. Creating an environment where popularity and soundbytes, style are king is not ideal. This sort of environment is like high school, which can be a very traumatic experience for AS and Autistic people, and in a lot of cases it's an experience they can never put behind them. Why bring it here, to a place that is meant to support them and encourage support? Just because you and I learnt to swim with the sharks and handle criticism and people liking rival opinions over ours doesn't mean everyone else is as ready to accept.

2) Your 2nd counter argument does not address my concern about quality control. If someone isn't able to offer decent forum etiquette because it isn't "convenient enough" then one must wonder why they bother with a forum in the first place. Yes, there is a risk of some threads becoming an ocean of "agree/disagree" posts. But if I may, can you point me to any thread in particular where it's become endemic? And even if you apply a like system, what's to stop people making these "agree/disagree" posts anyway? Having polls doesn't stop people posting about the answer they picked and why, does it?

Januaryman,

If anybody would get bombarded with dislikes or other peoples arguments would gain tons of likes I would fit the classic example. I can count on my hand a few people who don't like me on this forum.

We are all aspergers or autistics. Therefore we should all be able to relate in some way. I don't think every post would get a thank you or like but if the option is available everybody would be thanked once in a while and that would boost their soul.

You miss the point, which is:
"This also includes discussion of locked topics, discussion of banned members and why they were banned and anything else that purposely causes conflict with other members."

Link to WP rules: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt12459.html
See "3. Other inappropriate content and behavior prohibited on Wrong Planet"

Also, please edit back what you're quoting in responses. There is no reason to continually re-quote the whole history.

Who said anything about a discussion? I'm just proposing a congregation area of all the locked threads for members to be able to see the arguments that people had.

Since discussion of locked threads is prohibited and as they can still be read in-situ by anyone, there is no reason to move them anywhere else - and certainly not to create some sort of an exhibition.

Edit: typo

So will Alex find out about this idea?

What does that mean?

You went as far as saying that my idea would break rule # 3 when it never would. Whether that was a misunderstanding or not I don't know.

It seems as though you are trying to dismiss it.

This thread is for site suggestions right?

Yes, it is a thread for suggestions.
It is not a thread set up for you to constantly argue every twist and turn.

So, you want to corral all locked threads into a special forum "for members to be able to see the arguments that people had".
1. This will remove the threads from their context.
2. Members are prohibited from discussing locked threads.
3. Anyone can already read locked threads in their original context.

What you suggest will create a "permanent exhibition area" for arguments, flames, attacks, off-topic rants, trolling, and a host of other problems which created conflict between members - all reasons why a thread is locked.
In other words, you actually want to promote and make it easy for members to find all that conflict - and yet they are still prohibited from discussing it.
It's impossible to not read that as being nothing more than a request to continue the conflict in some way by making sure it's all easily accessible.

As has been stated many, many times - only Alex will decide which, if any, of the suggestions posted here will be implemented.
Now having made your suggestion, let that be an end to it.

If Alex looks at this thread, then yes.

How about a mod send him a note via carrier pigeon?

Unfortunately, all of mine died last week.

Bird flu. :/

I have a feeling he will probably see your idea, at some point (I'm assuming that he does scan through the WrongPlanet.net discussion forum from time to time) and he will probably dismiss it fairly quickly. If for no other reason, because of the overwhelming negative responses to your idea. Including from a moderator.

So I wouldn't hold my breath, if I were you. The chances of it being implemented doesn't look good. Just saying.

I think WP forum would be improved if....

(1) The software were updated, as this would no doubt improve many of the bug issues.

(2) There were a forum for the discussion of psychology in a generalised way, as the closest to this is the forum about specific psychological conditions.

(3) There should be a downloadable snacks section, offering a range of popcorn, crisps and delicious beverages.

There was this bug issue, which is somewhat being resolved still by Alex. a captcha is issued for when a site gets too many bad cookies and online street users for instance. I'm just hoping that now it doesn't need further maintenance on restrictions which ban a user for no reason, besides arguing against a common displacement or getting caught in the wrong act.
In future don't let a new bug issue a post-warning to a sub sign restriction notice.

Greetings and don't let the captcha bedbugs bite!

actually, i'm pretty sure that some of the color and font stuff could be done with a custom CSS script on my hdd. then there's ad block plus for blocking "flashy" avatars and the like if you so desired....

but yeah, i understand how much effort goes into writing or modding a script that just randomizes an image in a gallery on a static site (like my own!), so i wouldn't expect someone to re-write a multi-user forum system just to try something for 6 months.

for most other stuff, you're essentially just wanting a Facebook WrongPlanet group page, which there may well be already....

but an Autistic BonziBuddy in the corner would be kinda cool, if albeit slightly annoying.... :D

A legit dating part of the site might be nice for some people here. Maybe something like plenty of fish or match.com but implemented into its own part of the site here. There isn't any good Aspie dating sites around.
