Sinsboldly,
I have reported this remark on sept 10 on 'contact us'. If messages there dont arrive, there is a technical problem.

What's this forum for again? Oh that's it, a syndrome that causes social interactions to be impaired, a tendency to see things in black and white, difficulty distinguishing deliberate and accidental acts...Need I go on?

Quit the argy bargy and try to imagine how the other person feels before you reply. Even though that's something most of us have extreme difficulty doing!
Yeah Maggiedoll. I don't think you understand the situation. It causes a lot of stress when you start saying things like that. Don't be a butthole. And next time, have some experience of the matter(or think more about it if you have experience) before you come and blatantly insult people. You're acting like a bully. :x

Woah, what did I do? If I don't understand the situation, please explain it. How did I act like a bully by suggesting that someone who doesn't want to be criticized shouldn't step directly into heated debates and then complain about the volunteer moderators? I certainly don't think I did anything that would give you the right to start calling me names!

That is not a moderator contact. Woodpecker gave you a list of mods to contact in your thread "Favouritism by the moderators" here is the link to that post.
Active Moderators on "Favoritism by the Moderators" thread

I underlined the mods names, indicating a hyperlink to their PMs.
I am sorry, I thought, since you said you knew the problems of WrongPlanet.net and had issues with how the moderators did their duties, it was assumed you knew how to contact them.

Where would one normally find the contact info for the moderators?

There was an instance of someone encouraging another person to follow through on their suicidal thoughts that I was worried about and wanted to tell the mods, but I'm not sure I managed to.

BTW, I think y'all rock!

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt67102.html This thread, right at the tippy-top of the "WrongPlanet.net discussion" forum. :P Either to post directly or to PM a mod.

I actually did PM a mod about that particular post. (OK, well, I guess I can't be sure it was the post you were referring to, but at one point I did PM a mod about a post where someone told someone to just do it already.)

If I can't stop the rule-breaker either in forum or via PM, I try to directly PM the mod who I think will have the best chance of "reaching" the perp. For example, if it is someone who is very logical but isn't seeing how they might hurt someone, I'd bring in Makura no soshi. If it is someone who usually exhibits wisdom but has missed something, I would bring in Sins. I'd call on Quatermass if it was someone with a strong sense of humor who was making inappropriate jokes or similar.

They also vary in their approach method and strength of reply from Sins who is usually more the "Velvet Hammer" and tends to post more in the forum directly to Mak who is sometimes like a ball-peen and tends to approach via PM first. The others fall somewhere between these two. The choice can make a difference because someone who responds well to an authority/father figure is going to respond better to Mak, whereas someone who likes to "stick it to the man" is going to have their hands full with Sins who often (intentionally or not) ends up rallying several other forum users to back her which results in the perp seeing that this isn't a problem that "the man" has with them, but rather a problem that several people see in them. At first, when only one or two people are on board, the perp still thinks they are just shills or pets of the moderator and can discount them. But when there are increasingly more and more, their number reaches a critical mass that makes someone step back and think "Jeez, if it isn't just The Law that is upset by what I am doing, maybe I'd better re-think this action or behavior". Sorta what happened right here.

Each moderator, whether via coincidence or design, seems to fill a specific niche. No two methods are alike.

Wowies, you've got that down to a science! I guess it took me awhile to get used to the idea of approaching mods at all.. and there was one user I mistakenly took seriously who kept complaining about the mods threatening to ban to her for no reason, so I was scared of them 'cause of that. It took me awhile to realize that the problem there wasn't the mods..

the membership interprets the rules, and the members moderate. If people want to disruptive, they can be that way somewhere else. The membership supports those that stand up for WP by being members of the community they want to have. No one wants the strong to prey on the more clueless among us. No one wants to have advertising spam and huge flashing sig. lines choking up the threads. WrongPlanet is what we make it.

I don't so much draw like minds to me when I stand up for WP in a thread. Those members just show up and see where the need is, flocking around to comment on the behavior. Together we engage the member in obvious crisis and work with them. (The 'mods' can do anything about someone threatening suicide so 'reporting it' does little) but surrounding them with understanding of their pain and maybe a touching of their heart might help even if nothing else is offered.

In the incident that DonkeyBuster and I were talking about, it wasn't the threat of suicide that was reported... If someone wants to talk about suicide, maybe somebody will be able to talk them out of it, or at least make them feel less alone and less like they need to resort to that. The problem in that case was the person who told the person threatening suicide that they should stop talking about it and just do it. Mod-muscle was just needed then to make the inappropriate response go away.

absolutely! that is always immediately reported and goodness, no one is considered inappropriate when they haul out the rules and see why it isn't appropriate and call them on it, yourselves! first aid you always

look to see if it is safe,
call 9-11
try to help them yourself.

works for me

I read this as ShenLong attempting to lampoon what TouchVanDerBoom said... taking TVDB's perspective to an extreme to point out how unreasonable SL thought it was. However, I could be wrong! :P
