Facebook integration? Really?
if you continue it will be on the basis of your negativity and bad attitude being completely not helpful and this community would be better for it if you stopped, whether that means you being present or not.
I am pretty sure saying negative things in a false light that harm the perceived character of another falls somewhere under conduct rule #2, especially when that sort of behavior seems to be persistently in excess with you. If you want a rule for that added, that can be accommodated im sure.
I dont find that an unreasonable condition. Its not your disagreement or crticism I take issue with. Its the way you negatively (and falsely) twisted my post.
The entire of the membership should be made fully aware that they are just something for you to "toy with".
You know, you dont have to be so negative all the time lau and twist the meanings of people's words. You can deal with something as minor as experimenting with a 'like' button without having an attitude, instead perhaps trying to speak more constuctively. I'm trying to be nice here, but you sometimes make it really difficult.
We are not toying with 'the entire of the membership', in the sense of how the word 'toying' is generally used in regard to with people, we are toying with an idea as in introducing potentially beneficial features for people to try, if you dont like it fine, but dont suggest that we are toying with people, I find it insulting and I don't believe I have done anything to merit such an insult from you, and I have thus far, until this moment, tried my best to get along with everyone here and make things work for everyone.
If you have more destructive negativity to add about how malevolent the developers are and out to get you, I dont want to hear it anymore and have no more patience for it, and would further prefer you just leave in that case and not let the door hit you on the way out. On the other hand, if you want to start participating in a manner consistent with being constructive and helpful, welcome and enjoy your stay at the wrong planet. I cant be everyone's friend forever.
Explain how airing members dirty laundry on Facebook is beneficial to members, your not on the spectrum you only work for the server company, just because you think having a Like feature is the greatest thing since sliced wonder bread doesn't makes it a good thing for autistic members on a autism support forum, we have a right to some privacy on this site and having this FB Like feature is violating our rights. I am with lau on this and I am sure a lot of other members are too, what are you going to do ban all members who won't comply with these unacceptable changes, you are treating any dissension by members as a neural typical would, without consideration of our well being or feelings on this matter. Wrong Planet has become unfriendly to the people its supposedly here to support.
Firstly, lau started this when he said I am responsible for 'toying with the entire membership'. I wouldn't be replying publicly if he weren't twisting my words and being counterproductive also publicly. Criticism doesn't mean portraying someone as malevolent because you dont like their decisions. even though I am not the one who added the like button and it wasnt even my idea, I find it disrespectful. If you are going to say things in public, particularly insulting things, prepare to get your responses in public when applicable.
Secondly, I've been here since before my professional hosting involvement of wrong planet, I am on the spectrum, I was diagnosed and suspected for a really long time drawing parallels between myself and my younger brother, who is also on the spectrum, and has been diagnosed since early childhood. I find your assumptions of me uncalled for, you don't know me.
Thirdly, your on a public forum, you have no privacy whether theres a like button or not, and you don't have any 'rights' to anything. This is not to say your opinion is not or will not be respected and considered, but it is the reality.
You can hate the like button. I couldn't possibly care any less if you or lau or anyone else likes it or not. And if being unfriendly means ridding the page of people who personally attack others, by assuming the nature of other people or portraying them poorly in a false light by saying they toy with people, then I must ask you what being friendly is.
I will say again, for the final time, I dont take any issue if lau or anyone else hates the facebook integration. Its what lau said about my post that I take issue with, I don't think I deserved that at all.

Today, Facebook estimates more than 350,000 websites have installed the “Like” feature. The independent technology blog All Facebook estimates that the “Like” button
is clicked nearly 65 million times a day.
“There is a lot of uncertainty about the consequences of the ‘Like’ button,” said David Fewer, an Ottawa University law professor and Internet advocate. “You don’t know
what is going to happen to the information or how it is being stored.

This is why I don't want the Like button, but its being foisted on members here against their wishes, so please don't slough this off as some petty grievance, as I am
concerned for members privacy and well being.
Not detecting a whole lot of positive feedback for the "like" function. How much negative input does it require before it officially becomes a "bad idea" and gets binned?

That will mainly be up to alex, however if the idea remains unpopular over a fair period of time I dont think it will be too likely that it will be a winning one.
Thank you, toggie, its not that I have anythng against WP, I am just worried that this is taking this forum in the wrong direction Wrong Planet means alot to the members here
Bit of feedback to add to the pile then:
Flashing banners are a pain in the ass, and certainly not autistic-friendly. No vote.
Giant Toolbar is completely pointless. A couple of points larger would have been fine. They don't need to be that big, because I'm certain that anyone with sight problems will already be using a massive fomt.
Drop-down Autism Video banner things take up a lot of space needlessly, slow the loading speed down, and tbh i'm getting tired of seeing Alex and his mate and their toys pop up every ten seconds. They don't NEED to be on show for people to know there is a video. A link would have been perfectly acceptable.
Facebook: Yes its a privacy issue, no, it doesn't need to be there, Zuckerberg is the mother of all nosey-parkers and Autism is a wee bit of a sensitive subject to be thrown out over Facebook willy nilly.
Also some of the ads are a little bit oversized. Advertise Orange phones by all means, but why advertise ORANGE PHONES IN HUGE PAGE-BENDING TEXT? Caps is still shouting even in a net ad.

I tried imagining using the Like Button on threads, and immediately felt as if it would be like taking something that someone had said, ( in context, among spectrum "friends", etc ), and telling everybody I knew and encouraging them to tell everyone they know too.
Are the "Like" buttons usable by non-members eg. anyone just having a look, or only by members when they are logged in?
Votes so far suggest that not many members will be using the button anyway, but that is not a good argument for something.
I don't like it. As someone said, a Like Button on a suicide thread in the Haven is pretty seriously bad taste. I think that ironically it sounds like exactly the sort of thing that people on or near the autism spectrum are likely to come up with! :lol Difficulty imagining what something will feel like and look like to others, etc.
PS. The pop-up "Login" or "Register" banner, which get every time pass through the main Index page, is also very annoying. And I totally agree with people who find the new blue "headlines" distracting and a waste of precious "top of page" space.

Yeah. I don't mind people I know personally knowing about my having AS... I just wouldn't want everyone on my FB friends list to know.

I seem to remember introducing a mechanical means of moderation, based on words used in the posts when the server was relocated. The whole of WP was involved and excuses and apologies were made as chaos ensued for the members. Glowing red notices haunted every page and slower and slower access to WP became the norm. I don't see where toying with the membership is anything new, actually.
It just seems disingenuous to presume that WP is anything but a sandbox for the admin to toy with, actually. I don't see where you are personally responsible, TOGGI3, I know about the vagarities of the management and I understand how things can look good in a brainstorming session but yet be so off the mark when put into practice.
As for having people personally attack the moderators, look into the Watch List or on my personal log in the Moderators Queue, TOGGI3 and read where I was physically stalked by an upset (former) member to where I had to enlist the help of both the State Highway Patrol as well as the metropolitan police. As for WP, I was told if I couldn't handle the job as moderator with an even temper when 'these things happen' then perhaps I was not a good choice to continue in the job.
Perhaps this is just your limit?

Can you elaborate please? Are you talking about individual's blogs or the WP official blog (if there is one?).
Personally, I'd rather not have any links to facebook; people are perfectly capeable of copying and pasting their blogs to wherever they want, so I don't see the point.
What about the blogs of people who were past members with blogs; they may not be aware of the new changes until they come across an article of theirs that has been 'liked' on a completely different website?
One suggestion could to make blogs have an option facebook link (i.e. each member has to manually tick a box on their profile saying that they are happy to allow others to 'like' their articles). I don't know how difficult that would be to implement or not though.
Perhaps it would be best to put this all to an official poll, say on the General Autism subforum or on the WP front page (where most people will see it)? It's a lot more serious than just a change in font size or new forum (imo) so I think as many members as possible should be given a voice.
