Yes, WP has a parenting forum, but it can be pretty unnerving at times . It is basically filled with NTs, and it's impossible to have a normal conversation there. I know I appear like a nasty person in saying this, but these are my feelings: I have two children, and if an issue comes up, I'd like to be able to get sane feedback about it.

yes vote for (edit) a designated place to talk about children and any issues

(as opposed to parenting on the spectrum - which seems very useful and necessary, but exclusive)

We already have a place to discuss children and any issues. It is a very exclusive place . That's why we need a place dedicated to parenting on the spectrum.

So how far did this idea advance since last time I looked in?

To be honest, I have not pressed very hard since joining the moderation team. It is still a cause dear to my heart, especially considering my son was diagnosed with a verbal expressive disorder this afternoon, but with all the moderating and cleaning we have had to do over the addition of the LGBT forum the last few weeks this does not seem like the right time to be adding new forums :?

That being said, it is still Alex's call and I have not heard one way or the other from him. I still want the forum, but I am just one person among many and the more support we can gather in this thread the more useful it will be.

Have I posted this suggestion already? As kind of a dry run and interim filler, I think you should consider a sticky in the parenting forum that is for "Parents with AS" or "Issues Unique to Being a Parent with AS."

If all you interested folks who have commented so far would agree to use it I would be happy to make it.

I had thought someone mentioned a sticky but didn't think to look in the Members forum.

That was me, probably. People don't seem to notice it.

The sticky might be ok, but they do tend to get a bit long and unwieldy.

Having been on some of the "parents forums" available online, I've noticed that many of them, whilst pretending to offer "advice" are merely an avenue for judgemental self-righteous tossers to gossip and pass comment and make themselves feel superior. There is a tendency for the "normal" parents to start in with the whole "You shouldn't be having children." angle. An AS parents forum here might benefit from a degree less of that kind of eugenics. (It would be mindless optimism to think that there would be none, as there are plenty here who subscribe to that theory.) In other words, it might be a slightly...safer..place.

The members forum is very slow and few people visit there. Would anyone mind if it was moved to Parenting?

Sounds fine to me.
