there's also a difference between calling someone's government Nazi-ish and an individual Nazi-ish.

I should know better than to argue with the closed-minded.

I think you've made your point MasterJedi and you're crossing a boundary into offensiveness.
It would be best now if you just dropped it and quietly walked away.

Really? I'd love to hear your theory on the subject. Feel free to PM me anytime.

And just because I disagree with you does not mean I have closed mind. Quite the contrary. I used to believe as you do now, but it was my open minded listening¹ to the rationale about safe spaces that swayed my opinion. I had to have several respectful conversations with those people, free of bullying or name calling, but I feel that was time well spent.

¹ - LOTS of listening. Hearing, listening and contemplating, actually.

GODWINED THREAD, WHY???

And if you think women never get leered at at the gym you're dead wrong. I've heard of some mixed gyms so bad that women ended up needing an escort through the parking lot back to their car.

I have never heard of that before. Amazing.

And I just added Godwin to the spellchecker. :D

I have learned so much today.

I'm not a fan of segregation (or self-segregation), and I do understand why it's beneficial to leave the women forum open to everybody.

But is there a way to mark that on the main page? For some reason (and this could be my fault), I assumed only women can access this forum, just like only members over 17 can access the adult forum.

I'm not really complaining, but I'm not sure if I would've been so enthusiastic to post threads such as "I hate tampons!" (with a detailed description of my vaginal sensitivity) had I known the forum was open to general population.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not a prude. Plus, it's not like I don't participate in the adult forum with all those jokes. I'm ok with this. I just wish I knew.

So is there a way to just write it on the first page that the forum is open to all? I mean, the current description: "This is a place where women can feel safe to be themselves. "Having a male gynecologist is like going to an auto mechanic who doesn't own a car." is not particularly clear.

Would this be enough http://www.wrongplanet.net/postp4194364.html#4194364 ?( not sure we can get alex to change the group description.)

Yes, I think it's good to have some sort of clarification. Whether people will see it or not... I have no idea, but at least it's there so it's people's "fault" if they don't read it.

Like I said, I'm not a fan of segregation, and I don't see a safe place = segregation. I can understand, in a way, what Burnbridge was talking about, but I sure don't see segregation as a solution, ever. (And in the case of women-only spaces: I don't know. I'm one of the women who don't see all men as potential rapists nor do I think each man is a potential rapist unless proven otherwise).

That being said, it's true people say things differently based on who's listening, so it's good to remind all the ladies that the forum is open to general public.

If you think that women deserve a woman-only accessible forum, then men deserve their men-only accessible too.

I would like to talk about stuff like things related to hair-chess, shaving, male problems, male insecurities without being oogled and mocked by women.

As long there wouldn't be an equivalent forum for men with the same privileges , then yes it's discrimination against men.

there isn't a women's forum that men are kept out of, so it is a moot point.

whatever happened to the men's forum that MCalavera started? about having a men's forum here, you can try contacting alex directly if you like. he ruled against it a long time ago.

He closed it, I think he just got bored of managing a forum.

It's boring, time-consuming and unproductive for the forum manager, I'd agree with him on that. (but not Alex, I think he makes money out of those ads).

It died quietly for various reasons.

Yes, but there isn't a specific male forum, so it's not an issue.

To be honest, I usually dislike this sort of segregation. Having a female forum on a message board only makes it seem that the males are the norm and women are the other (or that males are "neutral" and "regular" while women are not).

However, on an Aspie forum, I kind of understand the point. There are more male Aspies than the female ones, and the way the syndrome manifests itself is different for males and females so it makes sense (just like a specific forum for dads - but not moms - would make sense in a message board dedicated to pregnancy).

I read somewhere here that the gender ratio on WP is nearly 1:1, don't ask me how this is even possible.
