I know that you feel the discussion in this thread was prompted by the thread linked above, but I'm having trouble seeing it. The thread stands and the link stands. Nothing edited, nothing deleted, nor to my knowledge any official warnings issued. Exactly HOW is that over-modding or over-authoritarianism?

I am not, btw, aware of a specific comment to the mods about that thread, but there have been member(s) asking in general about the rampant anti-NT sentiments and asking that these get controlled a little better. Just as it makes me uncomfortable when fellow women joke crudely about men, it can make AS uncomfortable when other AS joke crudely about NT's. Being a minority group doesn't really give one the freedom to attack the majority group in ways that the minority group would never allow against itself. Treat others as you wish to be treated; pretty simple. We have, in reality, a very broad range of AS personalities here, and the environment should make them ALL comfortable. Sometimes that means people have to learn to hold their tounges.

well there's a couple of points to be addressed in your statement above. If you fail to see a problem there it could be because you are NT and are therefore 'blind' to it, it seems 'normal' to you. That's unfortunate.

Secondly it is false to state there was no editing or deleting in that thread. Sinsboldly made a one or two visual posts (images) attacking people who objected, the thread was also locked (I don't know who by) after her last post, then after that, Sinsboldy's abusive posts were deleted and the thread re-opened. I don't know how or why you have formed the opinion that thread has not been altered. It most certainly has.

Around falsely informed authority figures? Is that specifically where you think Aspies should hold their tongues?

No, around other AS who find the over-the-top jokes offensive. If I recall, right in that thread there were AS members posting that they found it offensive. AS who are not mods.

As for the rest ... I don't have all the information. I couldn't find removed posts, so I assumed there were none. The policy is to keep a record of what is removed by the mods. With the exception of people killing their own posts - no record of that exists, for people are and should be free to change their minds about what they leave in print.

How very convenient for you!

It seems you and Mak are tying to enforce a doctrine of moderator infallibility with a list of banned/heretical subjects. I'm not catholic so I'm not used to that sort of thinking. You could always burn me at the stake you know!

Actually I was saying it should be like that, not that it is. I really am against a lot of "property rights." And people can curse around children, say what they want about groups - the WBC is allowed to exist and has a website that isn't shut down. There's plenty of US based sites that allow anything legal (basically not piracy and such.) Someone tries to arrest someone for cursing around kids or saying something bad about a group they'll easily have the ACLU filing a lawsuit for them - a couple years back a cop arrested a woman for cursing loudly her clogged toilet - the DA dropped charges (or a judge tossed them) and the woman got a settlement over $100,000.

I really think any website accesible from the US should be forced to have full free speech for the members or be blocked. And if their server is located in the US it should be taken over by the government with no compensation to the owners. I don't hate NT's but I hate authoritarianism and feel this site is way too much:

Again, it's in the description of AS that we don't like rules with no good reason and extremely ridiculous stuff like no cursing. I wouldn't want to see it be like 4 chan type anarchy but it doesn't have to be the Taliban.

Full free speech huh.. that has it's disadvantages, that means we can all spam racist remarks, argue amongst one another. Without moderation this forum would fall to the ground, as would anywhere.

1) The thread stands, the link stands, and it is not currently locked.

2) If a moderator said something contentious or authoritarian in that thread, they apparently had second thoughts and deleted it. As such, whatever was said is not in force and is best forgotten. May a moderator never change their mind? Do you prefer we all act as if we consider ourselves perfect all the time?

3) I don't get what list you think any of us may have. The thread STANDS. Suggesting that people consider cooling the bashing of NT's is not the same as disallowing it. I am sorry if there is acrimony left over from what is now deleted, but it no longer bears weight.

4) No one is infallible.

5) Your logic in jumping to these conclusions from what I've posted here or anywhere totally alludes me. I've only issued warnings or made deletions on very over-the-top stuff since being handed (uninvited) mod tools. A porn pic on the adolescent board, a joke I can't repeat here from the parenting board that involved rape no less ... that sort of thing. Don't confuse my efforts towards persuasion here with authoritarianism. The later involves no persuasion, just action. We wouldn't be HAVING this conversation if that is who I was.

Again, you are so focused on your rights, you don't give a flying one about your responsibilities. I propose to remedy that situation.

She's Australian. We tend to have an anti-authoritarian streak, which in me, to quote the Discworld novel Feet of Clay 'is practically Zen'.

Free speech is not freedom to tell a publisher they have to take you on, merely to choose those that will have you.u.

I don't like red. And no. I just get a bat the late Sir Donald Bradman would envy.

so, i guess the question in moderating is is this a janitorial position or a college of cardinals?

Neither. We are actually 'pure finders'. Look it up on Wiktionary.

Lol, it was strange to me, as well, but apparently many websites have the same philosophy, which is to select someone for the job without consulting them because that makes it less likely they will abuse it, than if they had actually wanted the job.
