I am very hesitant to enter several of the forums, because of the way they are described. The summaries of Politics and Religion are particularly procrustean. The whole masthead reads as if was composed in a hurry late one night, and never re-considered. It that is the intellectual standard here, I may as well not bother.

The text under the name of each forum doesn't necessarily describe the intellectual standard in each of the forums, they were just witty descriptions that Alex chose to write there. I've been writing in the Politics, Philosophy and Religion forum quite a lot and believe me, many of the people that I've debated in there are quite intelligent.

I'm not sure which branch of wit those definitions fall under, but given the serious, introductory tone of our public face, I really hope they will soon be re-done to reflect the actual breadth of thought presented here.

I think the description of politics in particular is hilarious.

Anyway, I would go check the subforum itself if the topics there were something I was interested in, and not let a description decide that for me.

Sure, I could learn to ignore it, but I'm campaigning on behalf of first-time visitors. This isn't animal house, so we should scrape off the graffiti. All Kudos to Alec for providing a forum, but a few details, like the titles for multiple posting levels are just bizarre, and not indicative of a spectrum.

We aren't Animal House, but we also aren't a PBS documentary either. We don't have to be across the board serious. I don't quite get the posting level ranks either, but I don't think they really matter. I don't pay much attention to them, except when we had custom ones and I decided to think up one for myself.

I, personally, would like to see the friend and foe code implemented. Adding a foe is supposed to render their text invisible unless you click on a link to reveal, and at this point, it doesn't work.

Seconded. Not seeing certain members' posts makes it easier to resist the temptation to flame them.

If that's a hint, I'm content to f-off completely.

I don't think that they were talking about you. They were just talking about the friend/foe feature generally.

the chance that the subforum descriptions, of all possible things, shall be redone is right about zero.

i do think the 'mechanic' joke for women's discussion is a bit tacky though.

i suppose you have a few bright ideas, hm?

i miss custom rank too. i could never really settle on one. the general trend of avian progression was neat, except when it's interrupted by the occasional mouse, insect, or ancient reptilian.

i very much doubt that was a hint.

... what???

Not even remotely... Ask anyone... I do not hint. I will make it painfully clear what I am saying... I had an encounter with several someones that just would not leave me alone... so.. it would be nice to go... yeah, bye now.

I wish that the "total votes" count in polls was actually "total voters" and that both were used to calculate percentages rather than just total votes (which is just total boxes ticked, right?) .... it seems like it would be very complicated to work out though, so I understand if it's not a realistic thing to hope for.

I do feel the place could use a more slick design. The threads and whatnot feel cluttered up and hard to pinpoint.

This is quite off topic, but a tufted titmouse isn't a mouse. It's a kind of bird.
