... and birds are dinosaurs, so we could almost have said all ranks are a type of dinosaur, except that there was "butterfly" - I don't know how that fits in.

I guess as you "evolve" you become larger and larger types of animals...after you hatch from your emu egg, you become a very small animal (an insect) and then you become a bird, and then you progress to larger and larger types of birds, and then you become an even larger animal (a dinosaur)...I'm not really sure.

And then you gain(ed) free will.

I personally could never decide what to be. I miss being indecisive with my custom rank.

I started making this list a short time after I joined. I'm not sure if it's completely accurate, but it should be close, within a few posts.

Emu Egg 0-8
Butterfly 9-17
Hummingbird 18-24
Tufted Titmouse 25-49
Yellow-bellied Woodpecker 50-74
Blue Jay 75-99
Raven 100-124
Snowy Owl 125-174
Pileated Woodpecker 175-199
Sea Gull 200-249
Tucan 250-299
Dienonychus 300-399
Velociraptor 400-499
Phoenix 500-999
Custom Title 1000+

It's a little strange, really----like, some of them, you have to get 50, to move-on to another level; and, some of them, you have to get 25..... Plus, I would think they would ALL end in "9"----but, anyway----there, you have it.....

I'm sure this has already been suggested, but could we please have an 'edit' button?

and as a result, us getting requests from other users simply to edit posts. doubt that happened before with the longer editing time.

the number of posts steadily climbs, 8 during emu-egg and butterfly, 6 during hummingbird, 25 during tufted titmouse to raven, etc... then 50, 100, 500...if it changed every 50 posts, all the way to 1000, that would be a lot of different ranks! :D

So far, these are my main suggestions:

- longer post editing time
- fix the signature system
- make it easier to access the user control panel
- custom ranks
- pics in signatures (strictly moderated, of course)

Another thing I'd like to see, is some sort of a "club" system, where users could join groups based on their interests, with some examples being like "Metalheads of WP", "Bronies of WP", "BMW enthusiasts of WP", etc. Club members wouldn't have any sort of exclusive privileges or anything, but it would simply be a way of finding other members who are interested in the same things that you are, as well as possibly finding out about things you've never looked into before. I also think that there could be a section of the forum with topics devoted to some of the different clubs, though of course they would be open to non-members as well.

All the other chat boards I've been on have, next to each thread title on the pages that list threads within a forum, a link allowing the user to go directly to the first unread message. I don't see that on Wrong Planet.

Is there a way to do that here? If not, my suggestion is to implement it. It really would make participation easier if I didn't have to search for the first post I have not read yet.

Thanks.

We have an age-related forum for adolescents and for older adults, but not one for young adults. I think the site would benefit from a forum for people who are between the ages of 18 and 35. This is a particularly rough period in life when one is trying to learn to live as an adult. There are a lot challenges like finding a career, finding a partner, possibly becoming a parent for the first time. It's very stressful. Perhaps older adults can give advice to younger adults.

It's there, next to the 'Quote' button, but it lasts for only 30 minutes after the post, so as to discourage trolls from going back to an inflammatory post and editing out the nasty things they've said after someone has responded to them.

Leave the 'Edit' button active for too long, and expect to see posts like this: "What do you mean, Ms. Moderator? Didn't you read my post? Nothing bad in it at all! I have absolutely no idea what those crybabies are complaining about ..."

What if a "moderators online" box or bar was posted on the side of each page and updated regularly- so that members having issues wouldn't always be so apt to message individual mods.. I mean, it's great that such mods are recognized and members trust them to be able to fix things, but what if that particular mod isn't on at that time? The mod that is on, would be able to fix it immediately. If a moderators online box was implemented, members could just contact that particular mod, and their issue would be resolved more quickly.

that's a good idea, i've had many requests and messages sent to me at night or during class when i can't respond to them. by the time i get around to them they have either left (i have weeks-old unread responses in my outbox) or the situation has changed much. so it's good to know when one can be able to help a user immediately. for now users can just tell when a mod is online by noting them posting recently, and until the site move, if they were seen "browsing this forum". whatever happened to that feature, anyway?

how would the software detect how a mod is 'online'? simply being logged in is inaccurate, as users sometimes leave their accounts logged in continuously, when they use a personal computer to post (like me) and it will show them available when they are actually sleeping, or out, etc. and then there is the bug of being logged out randomly...detecting whether they have a WP tab or window open would probably be the best bet.

often people quote a post before it gets changed, then, even if the poster has edited out his post to "hide" it there are still replies containing his incriminating version, otherwise it would be useful to be able to see edit history. the most we can do is lock an individual post to prevent editing.

Sorry for doublepost but also i think that threads that are dead from like 5 months or more should be autolocked to avoid necrobumping.

Good idea, but if members want to see immediately which mods are online, they do have the possibility of adding us to their Friends list, where they can see who is online.
