Of course not - but the same group ignored that it was supposed to be a support thread for alcoholics, not a jolly chat about drinking alcohol.

People have been upset and triggered by reading the thread, taking the (then) titled support aspect as accurate - to discover that it was instead just people seemingly encouraging alcohol and enjoying chatting about it.

A thread chatting about alcohol is not a problem, which is why it was renamed to something more appropriate (and accurate), then moved to a different forum.
That same thread masquerading as a support thread for alcoholics definitely is a problem.

Yes, and ads for it are plastered all over the place IRL - and on TV.

A more serious support thread has been created in The Haven -

One you'd already posted to - the one that became a pro-alcohol chit-chat thread, so that's likely worth avoiding.
I think that just leaves the more serious support thread in The Haven?

In several though not all of the forum sections, the "Latest Post" indicated on the main page is Alex's rules post from 08 Aug 2008, rather than the actual latest post.

I think we're all being reminded of the rules for some reason

^ Creative.

I'd made a small edit to one section which had the forum software treat the edited post as "now" instead of using the given date/time of the post: 2008 IIRC.
This odd promotion will soon pass as other posts are made.

Could you perhaps carry on the conversation about PTSD in a new thread, as I'd like to discuss it further. :) Thanks.

Done - it's here: viewtopic.php?t=414992
I can change the title if you'd prefer something else.

An equally late response - cyberdad responded to say that it was a leaving joke. He's since corrected his profile.

Just wanted to add to the alcohol threads discourse that I found it pretty lame that a bunch of people turned the OP's post for help into what it became. Kudos for changing the title, and pointing out that there is another "true" support thread (supposedly, I've yet to see it...but I take your word for it)

I think the original poster was quite happy about the way the thread developed, and he indeed contributed to that developing trend. There are many aspects to the issue of 'alcoholism' and the thread was doing a fair job of accommodating all sides, in my view.

^ In my view, it was very triggering for some posters and, as such, could not be called an “Alcoholics Support Group” with much validity.

“The WP Drinker’s Club” seems like a more accurate title.
