Not that I am any expert, but if Bi-Polar was curable, why aren't people being cured?

As far as I'm aware it isn't curable. I have Aspergers and ADHD and cyclothymia. Cyclothymia is a mild form of bipolar and my research on it indicates it is a lifelong condition that may (or may not) eventually develop into full blown bipolar. I take no medication at all but it does mean my life has some serious ups and downs and it impacts significantly on my working life and other aspects too. I have a relative with bipolar and he has to take medication for the rest of his life to keep it in check. So no, I don't think it is curable.

My dear Aspie friend has a Bi-Polar daughter that must take her medication or experience horrific episodes that are devastating to herself and those around her. Both my friend and her husband are medical doctors so it seems if there were a cure they would have been aware of one. It is always good to check out anecdotal info read by casual posters. Thanks, TallyMan.

I shall be very honest & straightforward to say that not only do I have AS also, I'm dealing with issues relating to
having Dysthymia is a chronic long-lasting form of depression sharing many characteristic symptoms of major depressive disorder (in the form of the melancholic depression subtype). However, I can understand that many people might find the new section to be a 180 degree turn from the original roots of the website and all, it's not something totally alien though.Honestly, I don't necessarily discuss my neurologicall difficulites in outright posts out of respect and concern for other people's thoughts and not wanting to make myself appear have more demons than Linda Blair in "The Exorcist".

All jesting aside, I'm not sure what this means for WP in the long-term but, neverless I'm not simply going to shutdown my account or leave WP due to a major shift as, my decision hinges on the effect it has on others in the long run both of a postive nature or negative nature..

I think having a separate section is a good thing. Wrong Planet is NOT only for people who have autism or AS.

Well then, they should change the slogan under the wrongplanet.net logo that's displayed on every page!

Adding a single forum for numerous other conditions doesn't take the emphasis off Autism and Asperger's. The site has always been and will probably always be primarily about Autism and Asperger's.

I really don't see what the big deal is. If "comorbid" prefixed all the conditions, would you be happy?

I think a major problem with some people on here is the desire for exclusivity. Its like wrong planet can only ever be a place where people with Aspergers or Autism are only welcomed. Everyone else has the rest of the internet to enjoy..

I think it's about feeling safe & secure. Lots of us(especially me) had lots of problems with being bullied or having other problems getting along with NTs. Letting NTs in here would be kind of like having a male rape victim attending a support group with women who were raped. I'm glad that this site is for things that can coexist with AS instead of specifically for people with AS but I can understand why people are worried about it. I'm sure the mods will step in to enforce guidelines & prevent any problems. After a while we can learn to get along

Well, rape victims need to learn that not all men are rapists, and aspies need to learn that not all NTs are bullies.

Although, the new forum is for people who are NOT neurotypical.

Also, NTs are already allowed here. Parents of those with autism (etc) and professionals who work with those with autism (etc) are specifically mentioned.

oh, they do, do they? So we have to learn that more than just men will rape us and more than just being an NT is going to bully us?

So we have to suspect and put up a wall against EVERY ONE, then? Are you sure that is better?

Oh, lordy, is it that hard to understand English? Are you intentionally misreading me? Being obnoxious?

No, "not all" does not men "not only". It means "not every". Not every man is a rapist. Not every NT is a bully. Pretty simply concept, intellectually (not always so emotionally), so I don't see why you've twisted it like if I'd said something very different.
