Yes it does, and that's why I don't expect to be bombarded with all this garbage here as well.

well, I don't think subjects as prostitution should be bad, as long as it is inside the rules, and I have noticed that people who don't like the subject, just avoid it, it is different than wanting some kind of discussions to be banned.

Honestly, I am kinda worried about this "politically correctness" thing on this site, mostly when it comes to ranting and the Haven forum.

Heya, greenblue. (I keep wanting to call you GB, but it looks like George Bush, so I don't :P )

Can you be more specific? I'm not sure what you mean. Have you seen examples of this or are you just hoping things won't go in that direction?

I wouldn't have minded been called GB until now :? unless that gives me real powers then that would be a different thing :P

It has happened before, once, that I remember, that's why my concern.

I think what he means is that ranting is sometimes used as venting. Therefore, the content itself should often not be taken too seriously, however the reasons behind it should be. For example, if someone says

"I f***ing hate life and NTs, they piss me off everyday I wish they could all just die"

Then you should give a disclaimer for the likely offensive content, and give advice as to why they hate NTs, how they can deal with them, things like that. We should have Rant Formatting like, red text, italics, a border with flames and cacodemons, that sort of thing.

Given the size of the site, and the rapid posting, it's going to be hard to deal with. We need to keep talking about this, and especially to give less skilled communicators a chance.

As for the "political correctness," we need a new term. That phrase is bandied about so much I no longer know what it means. It used to mean a kind of political "pussyfooting" around certain issues, and I haven't seen much of that around here, especially on the political forums. Just my two cents.

Pandora, I don't know how we can deal with some threads. There's been some sexist posts that had they been aimed at a person of a certain race, would've earned the poster much more serious repercussions. There's a sizable group here who don't know that women are human beings. I try to keep in mind that their mental maturity hasn't caught up with their bodies, but then that begs more serious and frightening questions that just considering these members jerks didn't. The fact that "sexism" is considered a joke and not taken seriously is another concern of mine. While women complain about men, it's about the physical and emotional threat they feel, and these misogystic posts only reinforce those insecurities.

I keep hoping the more sexual posts could have at least a "you have to be 18 yo to view these threads..." kind of thing, but we'll see. I really don't want to censor anyone, even the goofballs, because I'd rather see what someone is about than have them sneak up on me, sotospeak.

We need to keep talking.

Rjaye, interesting points indeed. I certainly find it frightening that some of the men/boys on this forum have picked up all the negative views about women and barely any of the positive ones.

We have a society that uses sexual images to sell products and lifestyles. It's necessary to use one's critical faculties to see these advertisements for what they are, but intelligence alone is not enough to guard against the aspie tendency to take statements literally.

I find it scary that I can be relegated to second class or worse, NOT because of any particular personal attributes but simply because of the fact that I was born with a female. I also find it ironic that the discrimination here is coming from a group who are themselves marginalised due to an accident of birth ie. different wiring in the brain that causes ASD symptoms.

Don't be afraid to post, but use discretion in what you post about.

So who is supposed to ask? Most people not on the spectrum would not understand these things or if they did would give NT answers this is supposed to ab a support site. It's not like she leaves much up to the imagination in the heading so avoid it I find many of the other posts offensive myself but would not go as far as changing the rules to disallow them based on my sensitivities on the subject. Even if she gets help with it or helps someone else feel that they are not alone it is worth it.

Parts, thank you for bringing up an important point about NT advice for those on the Autistic Spectrum.
NT advice I've provided on this forum over time, has not always been helpful to those on the Autistic spectrum. My intentions were sincerely good natured, yet due to the lack of truly being able to understand an issue from an AS perspective, my words have sometimes been interpreted as condescending or offensive. The complete opposite was the desired outcome.

I have later deeply regretted (and was too ignorant to realise there is a time frame where posts can be deleted!) some posts/replies where I was 'ranting'.
In the process of expressing an emotional view (particularly when upset), I inadvertently neglected to properly represent and articulate the view in a non-offensive, non-biased manner.
To some, the rants may be offensive, to others they were nothing more than text from a person venting due to emotional upset, confusion & frustration.

To answer the initial topic in this thread about being afraid to post;
Not so much afraid, it's more that I am wary. Wary for the reasons mentioned above, and because some posts are not restricted to the WP site so are viewable by non-members over the internet. There's also the point about second guessing what has been submitted and taking usually over an hour or so to type a response, so as to try and be accurate without offense - it's taxing.

I believe it is amazing and awe inspiring how Alex created this site - how he and others, continue to create and build the associated forums, spreading enlightenment and public awareness about AS - for all those on the Autistic Spectrum and for all those who are not.
How wonderful people with AS to have a place to venture, communicate, share and grow with each other in relative safety.

Thank you to all the lovely people who partake here - who at one time or another have extended their hand in friendship to me - AS or NT, beautiful people they are.

Cheers.
