(Mod note) Let's get back on track please. The thread is going off topic, and although not really against the rules, the idea is to make this a better place, not engage in bickering. I am pleased to see that most users are offering constructive ideas here. Words are powerful and need to be used with care.

No bullying or counter-bullying has occurred on this specific thread. But some stuff on here isn't contributing much to the discussion.

I think this is an attitude that would solve many issues before they even become issues. I think individuals make intentional/unintentional statements that elicit strong feeling from others. These others than respond with an intentionally charged responses. The original member than has a choice to either escalate or back off from the situation. All too often the former option is taken.

If you believe you are bullied by another member, start with something like "leave me alone" and, if you believe it's serious, let the mods know.
If you believe someone else is bullied by another user, start with something like "leave <member> alone" and, if you believe it's serious, let the mods know.

Please explain where bullying and counter-bullying occurred I'm perplexed ( probably how Fnord feels )

I don't think anyone has problems with what you're saying. They would probably be quoting you directly.

Stick around WP for another 2,000 posts and you will see it.Counter bullying is when people fight back after being attacked, you see it here often enough.

I understand that part. 2000 posts 8O I have a life you know  Who was attacked , who fought back , I didn't see it happen. Who was magz post aimed at ?

Sorry mod I didn't see your post.

^She's discussing how we can make WP better. I don't think she's pointing fingers at anyone in particular here, but explaining what can spoil things for users.

^A bit off topic but I keep thinking of a stack of wood whenever I see your user name! :D

This reflects my own experience here (both direct and indirect) to a T. But since in later times bad behaviour wasn't always discouraged or punished, nor good behaviour encouraged or rewarded, how do we change things?

When valid reports are ignored or dismissed, people stop reporting, so what could be done if we don't have enough mods or they don't have enough time to keep up? We're already probably the first internet site to "function" without an admin and that's in itself causing endless problems.

Some of the people who were contributing significantly to keeping the peace just left or gave up because they felt they were fighting the windmills. Not everybody is Don Quixote

It seemed like a directive not a suggestion to me but I'll go with that , you know her mind better than me.

you can't bate me into off topic comments , it's frowned upon - how devious of you :P

Apart from the obvious answer that includes admin and new mods there is little that can be done except a bit of naval gazing.

Maybe some fastidious willing members could be promoted to a higher position than member but only in name. They should be treated with the same respect as a moderator.

So not quite self moderation but you could have a member in each sub section promoting harmony alongside the mods.

e.g. Fnord could be assigned PPR and given a set list of things to look out for and be allowed to step in and promote harmony

Don't shoot the messenger

We need you to stay, BR, and you always make valued contribution here. Thank you for sticking it out! We will be getting more proactive here. I already got one member to amend/delete a remark he made just yesterday.

Reporting per PM or on the Mod Att thread might be preferable, as the reports generated using the report button start resembling an online filing cabinet and action there often takes time as the mod team are few and often busy offline. But we see PMs and new posts on the Mod Att thread quicker.

At least one new person with admin tools will have to be appointed by Alex - two former mods, TallyMan and Cornflake had these but no one else since their time.

This sounds a very good plan. There are already a few members I am thinking of and that are willing to, who don't quite want to accept mod duties but have volunteered.

Well if he didn't he could be sacked and someone take his place , I think Fnord would like to prove people wrong but obviously I'm not him so that's a guess.

P.s. I am on the Wrong Planet :D

^ A new member promoting Fnord. Gosh, that doesn't look suspicious at all.

He was just an example and also a member whose name I have used more than anyone elses.

Apart from Fnord what do you think of my idea ?
